If - IF - we ever get a new Legion book, just don't kill off a major member. Give readers a chance to enjoy the characters for awhile. If there's one thing we learned from The Great Darkness Saga it's that you can do an epic storyline without killing a main character.
Yes! Cheap, cheap drama to kill off characters or blow up worlds in your opening act to sell the street-cred of your latest threat/villain.
MANY of the original cast are already on the raggedy edge of retirement anyway, and have been for ages. If the cast is too darn big, just have a few pull a Tenzil and go do politics on their homeworld for a bit or something. "Oh, the High Seer / Shadow Champion / Coluan Prime / Planetary Champion of Xanthu / whatever is sick, I'm gonna fill in for them for a bit... Be back, uh, when the writer wants me back?" Or they can go raise their kids on one of their homeworlds for a few years, do the responsible parent thing. There's no need to actually kill anyone, only to have the next writer have to bring them back from the dead anyway, because your lack of story for them this year didn't mean that *nobody* would ever have a story for them.
