Default DC Next Dawn - September Solicits!

We present to you DC Next Dawn, a collection of all new fan-made issues on “sale” this month, SEPTEMBER 2022!

What is “DC Next Dawn” and how does it work?

Next Dawn, previously known as “New Dawn,” is a fan fiction universe and solicitation game that has been in existence on the CBR boards for approximately ten years! It has gone through several iterations and has survived forum reboots! The way it works is that “plotters” write short solicitations for monthly comic books! Then participants “buy” the books they want to read! The books with the most buys get rewards. Sounds fun, right? So let’s do this! Which of this month's solicits interest and excite you? Let us know by posting which books you'd pick up in the virtual Next Dawn Store (this solicitation thread). You can pull as many as you'd like, but also consider your "virtual budget" when making your selections, as sales are used to reward our titles and plotters. Registers are open all month and sales are tallied at the end of the month.

Absolutely anyone can make purchases right here in this thread - so please do!. It’s free and is basically just saying “I’d read this” or “I like this!” So let us know!

If you want more information on Next Dawn or are interested in plotting yourself, please visit us at the Next Dawn Bullpen Thread.

    Behold! Our monthly archive!
This is the repository of our prior work; a compilation of all the monthly solicitation posts since the forum was reset in 2014.

    AQUAMAN #23
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by GEOFF JOHNS
    Art by JIM LEE
    “TIDES TURN”
While Aquaman obtained the Trident of Poseidon and took revenge on the treacherous General Clea (see SENSATION COMICS #26), it becomes clear that the Green Martians are severely weakened and unable to offer any military air to Atlantis. In fact, Mars needs his help! Can Arthur assist long-term ally J’onn J’onzz and the Green Martian leader T’ars T’arkas in reclaiming the world’s capitol city of Helium from the lingering forces of Ares - the most violent warriors from across the multiverse that were intended to make Mars a true Planet of War?
Meanwhile, the war at home goes poorly. Khandaqi forces, with Black Adam as their spearhead, amass victory after victory against Atlantis. They have captured King Shark and Crablad and taken the Fisherman Kingdom and Tritonis, moving ever closer to the throne in Poseidonis itself.
With his brother nowhere to be found, King Orm takes a meeting… with Vandal Savage. Savage previously met with Arthur Curry and was rebuffed (see AQUAMAN #17), but now he is speaking to a different man at a different time. All Atlanteans who survived the cataclysm and developed gills are metahumans, and thus all are descendants of the first metahuman: Savage himself. They belong with him and deserve a special place in his new world order. Savage can use his influence on Earth and beyond to immediately turn the tides of the war. He can strip Kahndaq of its support and rally the world behind Atlantis. He can ensure victory where otherwise defeat is nearly certain. And he can give the Ocean Master a high-ranking position at Savage’s side in his illuminati - the Light. All Orm has to do… is swear fealty. To save his kingdom, will he bend the knee?

    DETECTIVE COMICS #28
Written by KELLY SUE DECONNICK (wrote Bitch Planet)
Art by VALENTINE DE LANDRO (drew Bitch Planet)
Plot by CAPTCLEGHORN (read Bitch Planet)
    “Ice And Fire”
Gothamites are remarkably stoic people. The travails and challenges of their city demand a lot of them. Yet there are still points that hit and affect them hard. It is rare to find anyone who was in Gotham at the time who does not know exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard of Thomas and Martha Wayne’s murder. Marian Mercer knows exactly where she was and what she was doing. She was eight and standing behind her parents in a Gotham City Police Precinct. Her teenage sister was crying wrapped in her mother’s arms as her father struggled to report the assault on his daughter. As difficult as that was, it became impossible when reports of the Wayne shooting came in and the family was escorted out rather abruptly, if only borderline politely. Marian’s sister’s suicide days later hit the family hard.
Marian grows colder and starts to train and develop her body and mind. If the police refused to help her family by punishing the men who attacked her sister, she would avenge other victims. She trained in martial arts and got into MMA competitions to fund her activities. Soon her exorbitantly violent style led to her banning from the sport. She then spent all her time going after those who prey on women and children, and anyone else who is unable to fight their battles. Marian called herself Pagan, because she stood outside society and refused to take the usual, expected path. Her latest prey got the attention of Batman who faces a decision on what to do with an overly violent, yet somewhat efficient vigilante.

    THE FLASH #38
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by ROBERT KIRKMAN
    Art by FRANK CHO
    “WORDS PER MINUTE”
“The world has grown dark, and while we have reasons to fear we have the strength not to. There are heroes among us, to remind us that only from fear, comes courage. That only from the darkness, can we truly feel the light. They include Barbara Minerva, Caitlin Snow, Eobard Thawne, Rudolph "Rudy" Jones, and Ethan Avery: our bravest and boldest, the metahuman Agents of W.O.A.H.!” - Iris West, Central City Citizen
WTF, Iris didn’t write that propagandist crap! What have they done to her?
In addition to an army of U.N. sanctioned metahumans and support staff, Vandal Savage now has his own mock Justice League consisting of some of Flash’s arch-enemies: Cheetah, Killer Frost, Reverse Flash, Parasite, and Damage. They’re enforcing Savage’s “humanity first” agenda - which includes ousting former W.O.A.H. Director, Captain Atom, after Cap wouldn’t play ball. Now Cap and the Flash find themselves on the run (literally) while seemingly allied (temporarily) with Magog and Peacemaker, two controversial antiheroes who claim to be starting a “Justice Battalion” to strike back!
Magog, a former member of the Light who turned against Savage, claims to have actionable intelligence obtained from the inside and a critical mission to execute. But can the Flash really trust him?
The test will be if this Justice Battalion can help Flash find and liberate his fiancé… which might be easier said than done, as unbeknownst to them, she’s currently languishing in a Bialyian prison with her CIA contact, King Faraday, both of whom have been brought up on espionage charges by the malicious monarch, and member of the Light, Queen Bee!
    NEXT: HUMANITY FIRST!
    32 PGs./Rated T+ …$2.99

    GREEN LANTERN #38
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by MARK MILLAR
    Art by JOE MADUREIRA
    “POWER SOURCES”
“In blackest day, in brightest night…”
Vandal Savage controls the largest assemblage of Earth’s metahumans via influence over the World Organization for Advancement of Humanity (W.O.A.H.). He also wields significant influence over many powerful countries on Earth, including America, China, Bialya, Markovia, Vlatava, and now possibly Atlantis, as well as over major corporations like Stagg Enterprises. As of last issue, he now also controls a vast army of robotic intergalactic peacekeepers built using Oan technology: the Manhunters.
“Beware your fears made into light…”
With these resources at his disposal, Savage now targets an even bigger prize: Warworld! He intends to permanently shift the power dynamic of the Universe and wrest control of the planet-sized weapon from its current ruler, Mongul… by any means necessary! But Mongul’s not giving up without a fight!
“Let those who try to stop what's right…”
With the Green Lanterns from Earth cut off from the Corps and their rings completely depleted, they get an unlikely offer of aid from an unexpected source: Sinestro! The Korugarian, villainous as he may be, is nonetheless no fan of Savage’s human-centric vision for the universe. He’s prepared to offer Hal, John, Guy, and Jessica yellow power rings with which to combat their enemies. But are they willing to take Sinestro’s oath to save the galaxy?
“Burn like my power... Yellow Lantern’s might!”

    Plot by CAPTCLEGHORN
“THE NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET HAP”
At last! Hawkgrrl gets her own magazine! Rent free! Well, PArent free as Next Dawn is happily collecting its cut of the profits. We continue off from the events of the legendary Hawkworld graphic novel. Wait, you haven’t read it? Ummm, oh yeah, it’s out next month as there are other surprises in it that need to be kept under wraps. Anyway…
Thal Chayara has gone through the rites of adulthood in Thanagarian society and has taken her grownup name. She is an agent for the espionage agency Checkmate# (it’s NOT a hashtag, it’s the symbol used in chess score keeping indicating a move causing mate). She is also attending classes at the University of Toronto in whatever spare time she has. Thal uses the name Cheryl “Cher” Thomas when in her new secret identity.
Thal’s primary focus at Checkmate# is alien incursions. When those issues aren’t active, she often finds herself assigned to a Venom drug case as she is this issue with investigating a smuggling route across Lake Ontario. It’s Thal and her senior partner Carrie Kelley versus drug smugglers.

Jon Kent is trying to study New Krypton for his school project. So it's time for adventure with his hologram grandpa!
First stop, Bottle City of Kandor! Despite Kandor being restored to normal size, Superman has always had a copy model of the bottle city of Kandor. And some Kandorian still goes there in their miniaturized form. And in the city, Jon rallies the tiny Kandorians and battled a deadly virus in their tiny form and stopped the pandemic from happening.
Second stop, the Wizard City. One of the first cities to fall to Earth after Krypton exploded. The Kryptonioan wizards reveals that they had prepared a magical creature that could terraform the planet with magic if they land on some other planets. And the creature has just escaped. So it's up to Jor-El and Jon Kent to stop the creature before it terraforms another planet into Krypton!
Coming up in next issue! Jor-El the hologram got bored with hologram form and decides to use a Superman robot as his new body. So it's time for adventure with his previously hologram, now robot grandpa! And they will travel to Bizarro World, and things will truly get bizarre!
In this backup story, we get a glimpse into Krypto's adventure in the Zoo Continent. A whole continent of extinct animals Superman has rescued from all over the universe. It was the Zoo in the Fortress of Solitude, now, it's a continent.

    JLAlien #9
    Plot by NX01A
    Written by AL EWING
    Art by RYAN SOOK
    'BLENDED FAMILY'
•Not everyone walked away from the battle between the JLXX and MAXWELL LORD's marauders. (Find out more in the pages of JLβ... Coming soon!) MA'ALEFA'AK and VOODOO's shapeshifting powers went haywire thanks to ZATANNA's magic, causing them to painfully and possibly fatally merge!
•The ÜBERADICATOR can make the transdimensional Realitätstor home in on a reality whose vibrational frequency closely matches the chaotic bio-fusion calling itself MA'VOO'DOO. To be honest, neither Max nor BLACKFIRE would have given a damn about dying Ma'Voo'Doo's plight except that the conglomerate's original dimensional frequencies were helping the Überadicator lock onto their home reality. Without them, none of them may get home.
•The Earth they appear on is chaos incarnate. Matter, energy, time, and space ripple and bleed and transform into one another and back. Being from an alternate reality is slowing down the warping of their bodies but they wouldn't have survived long here even before four of this Earth's denizens appeared.
•ULTRA the MULTI-ALIEN, ANIMAL VEGETABLE MINERAL MAN, METAMORPHO the ELEMENT MAN, and the COMPOSITE SUPERMAN find Max and Blackfire's singularity of body and mind heretical, so some recombinations are in order.

The team made it to the inner circle of Bashan but right before they killed him, Diggle and Bland turned on them!
Cray, Grifter and Ben were blamed for the assassination of Bashan and Bland declared himself the new President of Burendia, calling himself The Red Lion!! Diggle left the country and disappeared while the rest were left to rot inside of a prison cell and tortured for Bland's amusement! This went on for two years until Bland decided to release them for some reason. He said that he was a changed man and no longer wanted to bring suffering to people! THE QUESTION #38
    Writer: MARK RUSSELL
    Artist: BILL SIENKIEWICZ
    Plotter: CaptCleghorn
“Where in the World is Charles Victor Szasz?”
Part 9a: “Does That Look Like a Nice Place?”
The cross-country tour of Vic’s All-New, All-Different DCBA show is on its last stop. Washington DC and the capitol’s wonders await. You may have seen a copy of Atlas Shrugged by Vic’s hospital bed and it is a book Vic has read more than once. Vic’s objectivism gets a run for its money when his main guest for the first of two DC shows is identified as noted anarchist and radical Lonnie Machin. Machin is in DC with a mass of fellow anarchists who plan a public demonstration against America’s current two-party system and its government in general. You have never seen such a battle of talking heads as this.
Vic also suits up as the Question for the first time since his heart attack. Having a secret identity for so long has allowed him to develop skills to sneak away and spend time out of sight. The impetus for this is word Oracle (Valentina Vostok) has gotten to him about potential rioting occurring as a result of the anarchists’ gathering. The avoidance of another Jan 6 event necessitates Vic’s donning of his really cool mask.
There have also been questions about where this book’s story titles come from. This issue, we go to P.J. Harvey’s song Community of Hope from her album The Hope Six Demolition Project.

    Wonder Woman in
    SENSATION COMICS #27
    Plot by NX01A
    Written by PHIL JIMENEZ
    Art by STEPHEN SADOWSKI
    'VENUS BUTTERFLY' Part 1/2 'CLIMAX'
•Scientist. Astronaut. Occultist. DOCTOR PERIL thinks of himself as an adventurer of the Weird, and he's conviced something is very wrong with the Psápphō prototype hyperdrive fighter he helped A.R.G.U.S. develop for short jumps within the solar system. The only way to be sure? He'll be the first (and unauthorized) man to ride Psápphō into space! Just a quick jump to the moon won't hurt, right? So why did Johnny crash on what his sensors are saying is an oddly habitable Venus?
•With Psápphō (and Doctor Peril) lost, A.R.G.U.S. top brass reach out to WONDER WOMAN, revealing the use of 'excavated' Amazon magitech in the fighter's hyperdrive while asking for her help in recovering it (and Doctor Peril).
•The ancient scrolls of Themyscira contained an obscure reference to a place called Eros which existed in the same place as Venus but in a different time. Aided by A.R.G.U.S.'s premiere scientific mind and the reverse engineer of the proto-hyperdrive, PAULA VON GUNTER, Wonder Woman crosses time and relative dimensions in space to reach an alien paradise under swirling stars and butterfly-winged women battling men in starships!
•Wonder Woman has entered a war zone, and QUEEN DESIRA of the Eroticists won't stand for another intruder from Gaea!

I shall buy all the books, and Detective and Hawkgrrl need to be on the pull list !!!

AQUAMAN #23 (We are all sitting waiting for Crablad to save the day.)
BAT-WING #38 ("I'm Chevy Chase. Here now, the news. Steve Trevor is still dead.")
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #38 (Trips with your Mom are not the same as trips with your Dad.)
DETECTIVE COMICS #28 (Do you know how tough it is to find a pic of Batman taking a blow in a fight?)
THE FLASH #38 (I sense an intercompany Sally Floyd / Iris West collaboration.)
GREEN LANTERN #38 (Am I insolent if I suggest Hal's dressing in yellow because he put too much bleach in his laundry? Not that that ever happened to me.)
HAWKGIRL, AGENT OF CHECKMATE# #1 (That cover looks familiar. When will Cleghorn get an original idea?)
HOUSE OF S #4 (Does Superman really have a Lego version of Kandor? Those are soooo cool and mega costly.)
JLAlien #9 (I now have a better idea what guys like Grant Morrison saw in Silver Age DC.)
MAN OF BRONZE #12 (I am positive that there are deep hidden thoughts behind Matthew Bland's motives.)
THE QUESTION #38 (Ayn Rand hates anarchists. Just sayin'. And that DCBA logo does look kinda cool.)
SENSATION COMICS #27 (Yes, I know we want to sell to the widest possible audience. But all these entendres and no Mature rating?)
UNCANNY G-MEN #6 (It is nice to see Rhea Jones again.)

I’ll don the mask and wear the cape
If I am super, how can I wait?

    Another excellent month! My pulls:

    AQUAMAN #23
BAT-WING #38 (Steve Trevor is definitely behind most of the world’s problems)
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #38 (Romeo and Juliet but assassins.)
DETECTIVE COMICS #28 (this is a pretty cool origin story)
    THE FLASH #38
    GREEN LANTERN #38
    HAWKGRRL, AGENT OF CHECKMATE# #1 (it’s a hashtag!!!!!)
HOUSE OF S #4 (there’s a lot of advantages to staying a hologram, just ask Tupac)
JLAlien #9 (oddly, chocolate and peanut butter have yet to come together in this reality)
MAN OF BRONZE #12 (Diggle is even worse than Steve Trevor!)
THE QUESTION #38 (I figured his last stop would be Galt’s Gulch)
SENSATION COMICS #27 (Suffering Psápphō! Look out for those Eroticists!)
UNCANNY G-MEN #6 (they were bad before but adding arson definitely pushes them over the edge)

AQUAMAN #23 – You know, I gotta wonder... who is doing Poseidon's job right now? Not sure how much responsibility he actually had.
    BAT-WING #38 – Nothing worse than a Bland death!
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #38 – nobody tell Oliver Queen...
DETECTIVE COMICS #28 – Bitch Planet comes back to Earth!
    THE FLASH #38 – W.O.A.H. nelly!
GREEN LANTERN #38 – When is the Blackest Night event happening?
HAWKGRRL, AGENT OF CHECKMATE# #1 – What a cover! Eat your heart out, Frank Cho!
HOUSE OF S #4 – I am officially very confused about the titling and numbering of these stories!
JLAlien #9 – Putting in my JLβ preorder now!
MAN OF BRONZE #12 – Not sure I trust these guys. Seems like a Grift to me!
SENSATION COMICS #27 – I do love how insane this title has become.
    UNCANNY G-MEN #6 –

Arthur did find him in Hades, give his powers back, and restore him to life in issue #16... but he didn't have his Trident, which was still stolen until last ish. And without a Trident, are you even really Poseidon?

Remember to get those last minute purchases in! If you buy before I tally sales for the month, your purchases count!

This is this month's theme music for Hawkgrrl, Agent of CHECKMATE# 1 for those of you who may need a little more incentive.

I’ll don the mask and wear the cape
If I am super, how can I wait?
