This is debuting next week on HBO MAX. It's an adaptation of the popular Playstation series, which deals with a Zombie apocalypse but also themes of loss, bonding & revenge with a "road trip" from Boston to Salt Lake City. Basically, a teen girl might hold the key to the cure to a zombie apocalypse, and a demoralized smuggler has to get here to some scientists who could help. (Things don't go exactly as planned, naturally).


Once again it has Pedro Pascal in the role of an initially reluctant, kind of outcast guardian/father figure, Joel with another special ward, Ellie (Belle Ramsey). Also some of the actors from the games are involved, with the Marlene actress being the same, and Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson-the leads of the games-playing roles that are mostly unconfirmed (although it's rumored that Ashley plays Ellie's mother).

The series is said to not drift too far from the game 'canon', mainly expanded on it a bit, although apparently they're shifting the zombie virus to a less spore-based one that can potentially be breathed in to something akin to a really poisonous plant. They're not considering adapting the series beyond the second game (Although a third game now seems to be in the early stages of development; similar to how the success of Witcher on Netflix caused a sudden greenlighting of Witcher sequels, remasters, and remakes).

The game writers are also involved, Neil Druckmann is writing some episodes.
