Dark Ages #2 is pretty much a big battle between Kenneth's (and the Wyvern Clan) against Culen's forces. Considering the importance of this event and scope of it all, I'm good with it. There's tons of great moments, from Hyppolyta going berserk on some soldiers to the battle between the Archmage and Lord Volois (who looks suspiciously like both Brother Valmont and Duval), and Lefty sort of mentoring Angel (Demona). And although I know this leads to her capture, I found her getting knocked out as she did kind of funny. My only issue with the fights is that some of the human soldiers look a bit samey and there's little distinction between them.

I do really like the art elsewhere, particularly during spoilers:
Verity's death and Mentor's (Hudson) reaction to it. The moment is executed well in writing and visuals, though I mostly felt bad for Mentor than I felt Verity's loss. I feel it was probably too soon and it was telegraphed a bit in the previous issue, so I was expecting it.
end of spoilers Goliath's rage at Angel's capture worked a bit better, especially considering how mild-mannered he was up to this point. I'm very impressed that Mentor can keep himself composed enough to calm him down and already has a plan.

I'm glad that the next chapter of Tale of the Three Brothers came complete out of the gate. The story has slowed down a bit, but I appreciate the more detailed storytelling. I also appreciate that the story is easier to read now than the faded writing from the previous installment. I'm interested in the confirmation that the narrator is actually spoilers:
    Captain of the Guard/Robbie's daughter
end of spoilers and the implications of that.

Yeah, so far there's not much that screams "1990s" about it beyond maybe the phones. I actually think the most striking sign of the time period is the World Trade Center in the very beginning of Dark Ages #1.

That was in Dark Ages #1? Where?

Just finished issue 2 and really enjoyed it. Hated the death, and it did feel waaay too soon, but it landed emotionally and that's what counts I suppose..

...the art here is easier to follow than in the main book but still...can't they find better artists? This shouldn't look "vaguely inspired by the Disney cartoon". It should look like the cartoon, period.

I'm just saying it could look much better. There are artists out there who'd love to draw these awesome characters, locations and battles and do it with greater skill.

The Darkwing book, for example, is significantly more faithful to the aesthetic of that show than this one. Its depressing.

I feel like Goliath is going to win the case but dang it if Margot isn't making them work towards it in the most slimy, lawyer, way possible.

Nice to see Renard even if his health seems as bad as ever.

Eliza about to see how honest she can be under oath without incriminating herself. Way to testify for your boyfriend though!

I just saw that issue 12 is solicited as the end of the main Gargoyles book..! What's happening? I thought the main book was doing well, and would continue as other books spun out of it (like Dark Ages)...

Has anyone heard the reasoning behind this?

From the solicitation: "It's the FINAL ISSUE of this series - as well as the prelude to new adventures to come!"

And also, is there ANY word of them reprinting the SLG books? They mentioned it almost a year ago and still...nothing!

You'd think the Gargoyles name recognition would suffice...

This entire arc has been building up to this court hearing, so I'm glad we get a few elements that make it stand out from the other issues, from revealing the title a few pages later than usual to the use of double-spreads on the court room. I appreciate that we finally get a Lexington narration, although this time is via an online conversation with Amp AKA Staghart. It's a nice gimmick as we see his reactions to the case, although it does limit his perspective a bit, so it's not as deep as the last few we've gotten. Perhaps the biggest distinction in this story is that, aside from a couple of scenes, it all takes place inside the court room. It keeps the story focused, which I appreciate.

Due to the lack of action scenes or multiple POVs, it means the issue relies on dialogue. Thankfully, the hearing stays interesting, whether it's the clashes between Tobe Crest and Margot Yale or each witness testimony. Some of these sections are small, such as John Castaway's input or the physician's examination. The ones I found most interesting involved Yale questioning Goliath's motives (and testing his patience) and the testimony from Renqvist and Halcyon Renard. The former because despite being set-up as a potential ally, Yale expertly used his clutching of the shock collar's remote to show that he still feared him. The latter reveals that Renard's health seems to be worsening and may not be long for this world. More importantly, it also reveals he funded the Gargoyle Task Force's weapons and may had something to do with Goliath's arrest and trial. We still don't have all the details yet, but I'm surprised he participated in something so underhanded.

The ending didn't surprise me, but it still seemed like a good note to end on: Elisa participating as a witness, even after Goliath's refusal to put her on risk. This should be big, since revealing that she worked with the gargoyles on vigilante outings could endanger her job and potentially release criminals. Will this be how Tony Dracon and Brod get out? And the social stigma as well if the full details of her relationship with Goliath are out. I should point out that I loved that Elisa's middle name was Nichelle. A nice nod to the late Nichelle Nichols, who portrayed Uhura on Star Trek and voiced her mom in this show.

The Marvel series was supposed to come out first, but yeah. Even the trade for this series was pushed to next year, but I think it might be a company issue since the new Darkwing Duck series was affected too.

Wait....the 1st trade for Dynamite Gargoyles was pushed...? And so was Darkwing...?

I hadn't heard about that. What's going on?

I find it really strange they'd announce the end of the Gargoyles book in words hidden at the bottom of a solit...

...and none of the media sites are reporting it...

Me too. I really wish there was some clear information coming down the pipe.

Margot seem like the kind person that would have a issue with the littlest thing in a place of business and ask to see your manager? lol

Dark Ages is really setting the table for a lot of the lore of the series, and both how characters will grow (and fall) and how history will play out...good stuff!

It's disappointing that the 12th issue is the last, so we have 3 more issues plus the Dark Age book (idk how long this will last but really enjoying both books)

I read issue 3 of Dark Ages.

    spoilers:
Mentor and Goliath rescuing Angel happens surprisingly fast and is probably the most action-packed part of the issue. Even though this comic has been criticized for lacking any blood, I think it sells Mentor and Goliath as credible threats to King Culen and his men. Goliath's final line to Malcolm is stone cold. Also, what a difference we have where the main series currently portrays a chained Goliath, while in this issue, he struggles but greatly succeeds in breaking Angel's chains.
end of spoilers Drew Moss and Marina Pignedoli do a fantastic job with this whole sequence.

Angel also seems rattled by the events and it's initially odd to see her so vulnerable and naive. However, this is definitely one of the formative moments that will lead her to become the Demona we know and love. The Archmage also seems friendly towards the clan at first, but his blatant manipulation of Angel starts to reveal his true nature. I wonder about where she got her golden crown and why it's so important to her that she'd keep it so close to her.

We also get a Wind Ceremony, which is essentially a gargoyle funeral. It was a touching scene that also provided with worldbuilding on an aspect we hadn't seen before in the series. I also thought it was nice that Robbie prioritized honoring the dead over Kenneth's coronation. It shows how much closer he is to the gargoyles than humans. And we finally meet the narrator of the "Three Brothers" story segments, Alesand. I'm particularly curious about her fate since the show didn't even hint that the Captain of the Guard had a daughter. Speaking of, this month's installment was an okay story, but I was more impressed by Katherine standing up to Indulf.

Dark Ages I believe is six issues total, so three more of that, three more of the main series, and the Halloween Special issue. But again, I don't think it'll be the last. Either someone messed up with the solicit and meant end of the story arc or we'll get a renumbering or brand new title. We'll find out soon enough.

Where is the best place online to get up-to-date Gargoyles news?

...or Darkwing Duck news for that matter?

I feel like the old fan places (the Old Haunt for DW) have all closed up. And even CBR doesn't really report of all the news that comes and goes, pertaining to the comics or merch...

The Gargoyles comics are definitely not coming to an end. More news is coming soon.
