I even remember reading something about them fixing up those books, since the art in many of the issues was...well to put it politely, not up to snuff.

The artist from the cartoon series who came aboard later on to do interior art during the Demona/Brooklyn/Phoenix Gate issues was terrific though.
They've announced their intent, we just haven't gotten official word quite yet.

As for the rest... well, for better or worse, that's the book that was made at the time it was made with the resources available to SLG. It was what it was, I wouldn't Special Edition it.

I would. The art was really off-model. Plus, when they rereleased a collected version of the Sparrow/Silvani Darkwing Duck books, Silvani went through the trouble of redoing some of the art and they also rewrote certain pages I think. They really tried to make it better.

So this first issue was good. A solid intro to all the main characters (or most of them). Nothing happened really, but it was nice to see them all and get that introduction. I'm not sure about the art. It's different, fresh, good...but Eliza doesn't really look like herself. Too generic. The Gargoyles look alright though.

It definitely feels like too much has moved forward too quickly. Brooklyn's mate is still basically a new character. We haven't seen them get to know each other since that all took place off-panel thanks to the Phoenix Gate, right? So...hard to know what to think of them.

Hopefully this run continues for a good few years and the art is good. I trust Greg will tell good stories - he just needs a stable medium to do it in.

The characterization of Brooklyn's family was supposed to be one of the spinoffs. It remains to be seen if they'll incorporate here or still try to do the spinoff of his adventure.

Brooklyn's time travel was always going to happen regardless if it got a spinoff since the intention was for the trio to slowly split-off. Brooklyn with his family, Broadway with Angela and Lexington eventually being closer to Xanatos/Fox and Alex.

Definitely Lexington getting closer with Alex. Less sure about his parents who are still... scheming antagonists, just that the situation has gotten more nuanced.

Lexington and Staghart from Clan London, way more likely.

In the future spinoff he apparently was very involved in the future incarnation of Xanatos Enterprises.

Yes, Gargoyles 2198... but we don't know if that happens with David or with a grown-up Alexander.

I really hope Greg finds a way to tell these stories without constant time-jumping. It gets hard to follow.

    Well, I'm not sure how much of a time jump there'll be but;

    spoilers:
He does plan on Goliath and Elisa adopting a kid, Gargoyles being an officially recognized sentient race, Demona eventually getting a redemption arc, etc. That much he's said he had planned on (probably more I'm forgetting). But Demona's redemption arc is way down the line. That much I do know.
    end of spoilers

If Gargoyles is a cashcow then why Dynamic have to start this and Disney did not ?

Why keep Gargoyles and not use it ?

They already have the MCU and a lot of the reason Gargoyles was created in the first place was to give Eisner his version of Marvel to play with:

Back then, however, Marvel was, or so I was told, a corporate mess. And it wasn't just that -- as now -- various studios already had the rights to individual characters, but that the rights had been double sold all over the place, and that every character pretty much represented a lawsuit in the making if not already in the works. Eisner was advised NOT to buy Marvel , and of course he didn't. But he REALLY wanted to be competing in the boys action/super-hero market. That was when the Gargoyles Universe was raised as a possible alternative. We pointed out that the Marvel Universe began with the Fantastic Four, and that we could use Gargoyles as a springboard to more properties and to an entire Universe. We were encouraged by Michael to create spin-off properties, backdoor pilots, etc. And that was THE major impetus for us to work on things like New Olympians, Bad Guys, Pendragon and Dark Ages. (Gargoyles Future Tense -- which became Gargoyles 2198 and TimeDancer came later.) It was also a reason to be expansive with the World Tour and introduce more and more new characters, etc. Of course, by the time all this stuff was actually made, the world had changed again. Frank Wells died. Michael and Jeffry Katzenberg went to war, with Jeffry eventually leaving to found DreamWorks, and taking two of my immediate superiors, Gary Krisel and Bruce Cranston, with him. Rich Frank (another of my bosses up the chain) also left. Dean Valentine was placed in charge of Walt Disney Television Animation and he had no affinity for Gargoyles or its spin-offs. And Michael, who had initiated the whole thing, had way bigger concerns on his plate. I was more or less forced out. But for one bright, shining moment...

Disney still owns it, they can do what they wish with it... including license it out.

I think you meant to ask why isn't Marvel doing it? Well, I don't know.... but I'm glad they're not doing it. I don't trust Marvel with this property.

What are the odds of Gargoyles becoming a show again ?

Could that happen if the comic is successful ?

    spoilers:
She would definitely ally with the heroes in the Gargoyles 2198 spin-off; but first as a token evil teammate who sees a greater threat, and Weisman described it as a last chance at redemption or a final opportunity to destroy humanity. But he never said or confirmed she'd be redeemed. He said "epiphany"... he hasn't revealed the result of that epiphany; maybe she does become a hero... maybe she just shatters completely ala Lady Macbeth... and since Greg Weisman is a huge Shakespeare geek who has said Demona is their Shakespearean Lady Macbeth, well... that's possible.
    end of spoilers

If Disney believes they can make money off of the property, they'll want to do more with it. We have the comic now, the new action figures... and you know the old saying: vote with your wallet.
