Alongside artist Alberto Alburquerque, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author Charlie Jane Anders will take her MARVEL'S VOICES: PRIDE (2022) breakout character Shela Sexton, AKA Escapade, to Krakoa for an exciting new adventure in NEW MUTANTS (2019) #31. Over the course of a three-issue story arc, Shela reluctantly goes to the mutant nation-state in the hopes of saving her best friend Morgan Red from certain death. However, Emma Frost may not have been entirely forthcoming about her reasons for recruiting Escapade in the first place, sending Shela on a collision course even as she attempts to fit in with the New Mutants.

With the Cerebella rebranding I had forgotten that the character is Martha, who has history with the U-Men. I like the art but it's a rough transition after getting used to Reis' work. Still wish Escapade had a better costume.

That's Hibbert, Escapade and Morgan's genetically engineered animal friend. The implication I got from the Pride story is he was liberated (stolen) by Escapade.

I mean, personal tastes vary from fan to fan, and while this isn't my ideal aesthetic -- particularly for a story that integrates new characters -- it IS emotive.

I'd be very interested to see how the reception of a story like this would benefit from one of the bigger names on line duty.

Looks like a repeat of the same mess New Mutants fell into when Wells left and X-man and Blink got dumped into the book.
