Default Compared To Batman And Superman, Does Wonder Woman Need More Cool, Iconic Stuff?

    The SILVER AGE of COMICS!

Most of the time, when we're grumbling about what's missing in today's Wonder Woman comics, we're talking about stuff that Writer/edtr. Robert Kanigher didn't manifest in the Silver Age, when writers were adding iconic, imaginative stuff to the worlds of Batman, Superman and the Fantastic Four, that we're STILL talking about ..and looking for in movies and TV shows!

Haven't blogged about this on Wondabunga, yet, ..but, Wonder Woman really got cheated out of the cool, ICONIC sci-fi fantasy stuff, when compared to what Superman and Batman got, back in the Fifties! Check out this goodies list! WW needs more cool stuff!

Please add or challenge items on this list, where you find something I might have missed ..or something you disagree with. Thanks, kangaliers!

Yeah Wonder Woman got all that massive and iconic Worldbuilding back in the Golden Age, long before Clark and Bruce, and then when the Silver Age came, she didn't get much with staying power

WThe test, as I see it - what cool stuff can you imagine inspiring TOYS and playsets? Basically, WW's got the Invisible Jet, the Lasso and bracelets and Paradise Island...that's it! No robot tank for Steve. No UFO for Andros. No Mars's Martian Fortress. No Nubia's Floating Isle of Doom!

    She's got nuthin'!

    She totally does.

Her biggest problem has always been each team comes in and changes what the previous team did so we have no consistency.

Themiscrya needs to look a bit lavish and mystical.

She needs her own "batcave" or "FoS"

She needs more "cool" high-profile storylines. The necksnap is probably her biggest story nowadays and the fallout could've been great had DC not interfered.

She needs an actual relationship with her Wonder fam. And probably one of them need an iconic death tbh.

Start giving her villains more personality. Strife is a great villain with a fun personality that doesn't get enough play.

But all that said, a tv/animated show helps cement some of these iconic aspects.

Yeah. Pretty much agreed on all counts.

I think they just need to stop Flashpoint/52-ing her.

She has plenty of unique and iconic trappings but TPTB at DC for a very long time focused on making her generic just because they didn't like/understand her all while ignoring pitches from people who did.

So I would say she just needs to be celebrated for what she was designed to be rather than these tired and forced efforts to make her generic or fit into basic Patriarchal tropes

Largely why nothing much of value in Pre-Crisis was lost with the Perez reboot.

She needs better writing. Editors that keep consistency with her powers, personality and supporting cast. And better promo. You can have the best and most original ideas. But Nothing will change if the execution isn't better and you don't have good support behind.

    ^^^Same.

Diana has some of the coolest villains (Cheetah, Giganta, Doctors Psycho and Poison, Egg Fu, Blue Snowman, Silver Swan, Circe…), godly ties, an island paradise to explore…

middle ground her power-set. She’s kind of unique in the DCU where characters are either top tier or street level. Diana’s been at both ends of that spectrum…

…and at least for me, an over abundance/lack of power doesn’t make Diana more interesting.

middle ground power level? You can keep it. We have had years of mid tier WW. And she sucks. WW is meant to be a crazy powerful being.

    ^^^No she’s not.

That’s why she works in The Trinity.
She doesn’t need to be the most powerful OR the weakest person in the room. She's the most level headed. She's a diplomat; the one that sees the other options, who can deescalate a situation and talk the bad guys down.

Uber powerful characters who punch their way out of every problem are a dime a dozen. Diana’s one in a million.

Doesn’t mean she won’t smack the taste out of your mouth as needed, though…

    …’cause she’s awesome.
But I am way derailing this thread. Apologies to Mel Dyer, over and out.

WHy are you equating "uberpowerful character" with "punch[ing] their way out of every problem"? Those two things are not inherently linked. In fact, I actually love the essence of Wonder Woman PRECISELY because she is an uberpowerful character who would rather reform her villains/talk some sense into them/appeal to the humanity in them rather than punch them into submission. THAT is Wonder WOman. Wonder Woman is not a mid-tier brawler with ties to the Olympian deities. She is indeed an uber-powerful character AND she is also a character who is supremely skilled at de-escalating a situation and choosing the path of least resistance.

Mystikal is actually correct about that. ("That" being the notion that WW is meant to be an uberpowerful being.) She is the only character designed and conceived to be quite literally "Invincible yet Human". She was conceived to Dominant Force and the Feminine and to be instructive.

So yeah uberpowerful--able to squash any physical situation--but possessed of a different point of view borne of compassion and love which informs the use of that power.

She doesn't work in the trinity. She has never been treated well next to those 2. And there are no good JL stories where WW plays a big part.

And yes. Diana is indeed an uber-powerful character, she is also a character who is very skilled at controlling extreme situations, and will always try finding a peaceful solution first. One thing doesn't negate the other.

She needs a superhero base, both Supes and Bats have iconic bases. The Invisible Jet can easily be repurposed for that since it’s already iconic but kinda useless nowadays. Repurpose it as her base because it’s an Amazonian tesseract.
