Default What has a better chance at best picture The batman or Black panther WF

I was just thinking today with the batman being out and already a success and black panther coming soon which of either of these films has a better chance at stealing a best picture nomination at the 2023 oscars. I know there is a lot of films coming at the end of this year that will be best picture caliber but on the outside chance which of these films do you think has a better chance at best picture. Remember black panther and joker got nominated two years in a row. So which one is it going to be!

You understand that no one here has seen BP:WF yet?

We can't say until we've, you know, watched Black Panther?

In saying that, if it's as good as the first one was, Wakanda Forever has the better shot. Don't think either will get nominated though. Too many good films have come out this year.

Neither has a chance at the best picture nomination.

If it is blockbusters Top Gun and Way of Water have the best chance.

I am quite surprised about the Batman, its momentum has not held for the whole year. it is kind of like some have forgotten the movie was released in 2022. Such a shame since it was good film that took risks.

I can see Black Panther 2 fitting what is expected from MCU movies, I don't think it will get nominated if The Batman isn't getting nominated.

Bingo. And neither would likely deserve it. Joker (2019 film) is the only comic film in recent years that even kinda constructed itself as something remotely plausible for a Best Picture nomination.
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

    We haven't seen BP:WF.

We literally can't judge a movie that we haven't even seen.

Since we have seen "The Batman" I don't think it'll get nominated for best picture. It might get nominated for its score, but Best Picture? I don't think so. People were blown away because it's great as a Batman film, but come nomination time, it won't stand up to the competition.

Didnt' they just invent some "fan favorite" category or somesuch in an attempt for ratings? It might get nominated for that, I guess...

I mean just going off the movie trailer for WF it looks good but nothing we haven't seen before and probably anther CGI MCU battle however if TDK didn't get nominated the Batman won't either.

This thread immediately made me think why The Batman because well I liked it but it had "work in progress" written all over it with at least a duology confirmed.

If we're talking DC Films, Joker will have soon enough a duology whose first film already earned Oscars so we'll think on just that one a lot.

And because I assume the new Black Panther will be beloved and make huge box office, the best contender bar none regarding blockbusters this year is Top Gun Maverick. I actually wonder if the final Cruise Mission Impossible duology will look a little shy in comparison.
