    Default Ruins of Khazan - A Rumbles RPG - Sign Up/System Test

    Welp. Let's see how this goes. Remember, this is still primarily to work out the kinks with the system I've built.

    There was once a land at the centre of all things. A great metropolis known as Khazan stood at the very centre of all creation, the nexus of the multiverse. It was built around the hallowed arena and beings from all walks of life and every world would gather for combat.

    For combat is the rule of the multiverse, might above all else.

    Or so it was told.

    There were those that lived in Khazan, ruled Khazan and served Khazan. Orders of knights, warriors and tyrants, the great and the good, the demonic and the deadly. A great gathering of those who sought power and combat above all else.
    Then, after a time longer than an eternity but shorter than an age, the great city fell to ruin. Abandoned and left to decay. The pathways to it were thrown into chaos, memories faded and no one visited the sandy arena floor for ages untold.

    Until now.

    You have slipped the bonds of your home reality and found your way to the corpse of the City of Khazan. It takes a special kind of person to find the doorways, especially now the interdimensional webways have been so damaged. You must want something. You must hold an ambition or desire so strong that it forced its way beyond the confines of reality itself.

    The centre of creation is a husk now but in the silence and falling leaves there are eons of secrets, treasure and dangers waiting to be found. Slowly but surely others are arriving one after another. The chosen, the lucky, the hungry. Opportunity awaits for those wiley enough and ruthless enough to take it. There are alliances to be made, secrets to discover and power to claim in this ancient halls. As the multiverse remembers the glory days, more and more will come and the sands of Khazan will once again be dyed with the blood of glorious combat.

    They say the arena was once home to a great power known as ‘Rumble’ in ages past. So-called because it made the heavens themselves tremble. You have felt the first taste of the Rumble, how far will you go for more?

    Welcome to Ruins of Khazan - A Rumbles RPG. A collection of beings from across the multiverse are drawn together by the power of the Rumble and are thrust into a conflict that pits worlds against one another in a mad rush for the long-lost and ancient power of the Rumble.

    Unlike previous versions of the Rumbles RPG, the object of this game is not to make a poster persona per se, you are a traveler from somewhere amongst the many worlds in the infinite cosmos who has happened upon the ruins of the once proud and chaotic city of Khazan and have begun to feel the power of the Rumble. You and others like you will decide what to do with this power.

    But first, we need to get to know you and figure out this dang stats engine.

    Age: Both in years and what that means in terms of your demographic for non-humans.
    Race: As in human or whatever alien being/monster/demigod you might be.
    Gender/Pronouns:
    Physical Description: Images are allowed perhaps even encouraged but all profiles must have a full written description.
    Homeworld/land: Where do you hail from in this interconnected worlds? Where is home?
    Bio: What is your background and history and, most importantly, how did you get to the centre of the multiverse?
    Want: Only those who seek something, who have that hunger for something of great value are driven beyond the boundaries of reality. What is it that you want? What drives you? And what can access to all realities offer you?

    Traits/Proficiencies:
    Traits are skills or abilities that your character has or has trained. They work as a +20 applied across 2 different Stat Types at a ratio of 50:50 (+10 & +10) or 75:25 (+15 & +5). Trait points also contribute to your Sync points (see below)

    Traits also add a single gameplay effect that allows the player to have an additional gameplay system. If you wish to use your Trait to add an additional boost through that system, this is limited to +10 per check or +5 for a persistent/passive effect. Please also use these as an opportunity to provide flavour and context to your character.

    Traits can also sync with Techniques to alter your gameplay and create unique systems. See this post for an example of me offering that to an existing player.

    Trait Examples:

    Regeneration (RES +15 / DUR +5) - Player can regenerate HP damage taken (+5 HP per combat phase). Cannot regenerate from zero HP, cannot exceed HP maximum.

    Flight mutation (SPD +10 / AGI +10) - Player can now fly. Gain a +10 SPD to aerial attacks

    Gunslinger (PRE +10 / CHR +10) - Player gains the ability to hit at range on their basic ATK action. If they are disarmed, they are unable to hit at range.

    [Outfit]

    Standing at 5'7" and weighing about 150 pounds, the Warrior of the Wasteland has a solidly built frame garbed in strange and gaudy vestments. A long coat of hides and cloth drape her shoulders, sewn from trophies stripped from opponents, be they man or beast, trailing behind her in a multi-coloured patchwork. Likewise, the scales of marshland predators adorn her sleeves, and furs and sinews taken on the plateau serve as for hosierie and garters. A leather belt girds her waist with an unadorned face, which had once been set with some accolade which has been lost.

    Perhaps her most immediately striking feature is her pallor. At first glance it would seem indistinguishable from paint, perhaps the sign of a ritual marking or theatrical guise. There is something not quite right behind the amber-red eyes set in the hollows, and any extreme expression causes fractures to spread; Yet just as soon as these cracks form they reseal, the blood weeping at the edges of her eyes and mouth the only proof that they had ever been there.

    Homeworld/land: The Cursed Earth outside of the Walled City of the Magi

    Nobody knows how or why, but the world outside of the walls had been afflicted with a terrible pesitlence. It came first as fog they named the Ruin, for it had eroded the rational boundaries of life into something unnatural. To combat the decaying world, the Magi of the Administratum carved out a piece of land for themselves. Dividing it into thirteen sealed quadrants, they called it the Last Land of this cursed earth, and with technology indistinguishable from magic and magic indistinguishable from life, collectivized a heavily regimented way of life that would ensure humanity's survival and the next step of the species' evolution, the Witches.

    Bio:

    It is not useful to cling to what was, but to hold on to what is. That is the only way to remain sane in a fragmented world.

    Through great trepidation Kinu had somehow made her way from the rural fringe of civilization towards the badlands beyond. Only madmen and beasts beyond the wards of the Magi's walls lived in the wasteland, but if it was mad and wild to be free, she embraced it, for that was how society trapped itself within the walls of their own making. It was here that she stripped herself of all artifice, honing her skills and strength as she sought to challenge the world itself. Innumerable conquests began upon the blasted heath, by lift and lock and submission pin. But there were no prizes to be won here, no just reward, no greater good. Upon this plateau with only the sky for company, there was no peak to be found. Though she subsusted on these moments and took it for her sustainance, to live for survival's sake alone where the Ruin shed the better part of reason had made nature itself unhinged it from any sort of grounded reality..

    In pursuit of greater meaning, she began to regard the wards of civilization's barrier against the outside, as a challenge. She'd forgotten why she'd left, but she knew there was nothing to fear and she stood was living proof that those inside had all been told a lie. To cross back over and take back the known world, on their behalf, she would bring them a revolution from the outside - she would be their champion.

    She found herself in likeminded company for a time, made many allies and had many adventures and together they began to climb the ladder, each small victory against the Magi snowballing into a revolution. With every step, she heard the cry of the multitudes around her, saw the looks upon their faces; knowing she was wanted, they gave her meaning. Through her own boisterous acts of resistence, she dared peer upon the Magi through a ceramic kabuki mask, a white visage that slowly became her symbol, adorning walls and faces alike in solidarity. Then there came a day where she challenged the Champion of the Magi with the voice of the people behind her in the great arena. Togther they would rise up and know they no longer needed to be afraid.

    But it was not meant to be.

    By following her to the site of the arena, those who were resisted were penned in to a structure crafted by cruel wizards who saw them as little more than chattle; By accepting their challenge, Kinu was bound immediately to the geas that was made law upon this hallowed ground, Defeat Is Set When Acknowledged. And when she grappled with their homunculous Champion, at the crucial moment, she froze when she heard it speak into her ear.

    "How strange, do you not remember what happened last time?"

    In the aftermath, they'd cursed her through the blood sacrifice of her people, and the energy of mundus was used to place a curse upon her. The mask she wore and the person underneath were now indistinguishable; a facade, frozen in a moment in time, fixed upon her face as a trophy of the fallen

    Yet this, too would not be te end of it, for so strongly did she believe in her victory, holding onto the knowledge that she had been wronged with the death of those who believed in her upon her head, that the curse that had fallen upon her would fall no further. She got up and fought as long as she could until her comrades succeeded in bringing down the Walls. But when the Ruin poured into the Last Land tempered in its runic construction in the language of magic that sustained reality, the irrationality force spread corruption into a chain reaction that brought about the end of the world.

    Want:

    With deep, temperamental passions serving as her anchor, Kinu believes that fate had robbed her of a meaningful victory, and after having witnessed the end of her world, with all its foes destroyed leaving her reason to fight hollow, she is suddenly stricken by an absence of purpose. Crossing through the void, she can only try again, for she knows no other path. Ruthlessly prepared to sacrifice everything for victory for its own sake, in a sense, this would be returning to her roots as a vagabond, where victory and survival are the same, heedless of the accolades. Some part of her craves a warrior's validation, an acknowledgement she cannot give herself; but will that lift the curse of the mask, the symbol of her coveted championship to be, as it slowly fuses to her face?

    Traits/Proficiencies:

    Effect: By tapping into Issen, colloquially known as the Hype Generator through sheer force of will, Kinu regenerates +5 ENR at end of turn to continue to test her mettle!

    Half Guard: Increased resistance to Grapple State during combat phase by her Magnitude [up to a maximum of 17], incurring ENR cost of up to 13 ENR. Components: 1 Manipulation, 1 Creation.

    Scavenger: Kinu turns defeated enemies - whether by frisking them for items or...other means - into single-use consumables. Component: 1 Creation.

    Top of the Food Chain: As much as the champ has acclaim of the jobbers, so does the title put a consummate target upon her head. Manipulates battlefield conditions to scatter minions and draw the attention of stronger enemies. Prompts an enhanced Intimidation Check to the opponent(s) targeted; If they fail, they will be afraid of her and won't attack her because of Intimidation (similar to Fear effects). if they pass the check, they will start targeting her specifically.

    Mic Work: Kinu's brash charisma gilds her words with an aura of fearful and strangely convincing magnetism. Boosts Persuasion during speech checks. Components: 1 Communion, 1 Knowledge

    When it comes crashing down and she is reminded of the hurt inside, Kinu eschews all honor and pride - and any respect she had for her opponent.
    STR effects: At current levels (40 + 25 = 65 STR) invoking Squash Match grantes Kinu 40 feet of auto-fling on all regular attacks while it is in effect.

    Honed (25 ENR) +[B][U]Spirit Honed(+10 ENR for additional effect): Cost 35 ENR

    Suplex City (+40 STR/+10 PRE) + With a grab around the waist and a perfect arch in her back, Kinu drops a foe directly on their brainstem to the amazement of many and humiliation to them specifically!

    PRE effect: Surge (Disrupt +15 ENR for opponent's next actions

    Epic (75 ENR)

    Rolling Death Cradle (+60 STR): Making the opponent accept defeat is often a matter of making it artful and indubitable. When Kinu closes in range in a one-on-one confrontation, she chooses not to pin...but to death roll.

    Prerequisite Must be chained from successful Grapple or Crater or Stun state.

    Body Effect: Submission (ATK STR vs STR + (SKI)/2.)

    SPIRIT

    Mundane (10 ENR)

    Kishi Kaisei (起死回生 "Escape Death! Return to Life!) [+20 PRE] Kinu pushes herself to dig deep within, and through passion's sake, for hatred's sake, to keep going, for the heat of battle pushes her beyond her limits!

    Effect: Recover +20 Mastered ENR

    Spirit Epic (75 ENR) + Body honed (+10 ENR for additional effect) Cost: 85 ENR

    Codebreaker: (+60 PRE, +10 SPD): Kinu counters an enemy's attack by catching their face while falling and driving it into her knees. Counter-Technique.

    Body Effect: Inspired Counter.
    Spirit Effects: Concuss: Stun: Target is stunned for 1 turn and can take no attack, movement, reaction or defence actions.

    MIND

    Mundane (10 ENR)

    Poison Mist (+20 CHR) A victory earned by any means is still a victory - and more than anything Kinu hates the shame of losing! By summoning the vile energy within her, Kinu spits a toxic spray at an enemy!

    Mind Effect: Debuffs [Kinu's CHR (40) + Technique Modifier] in BRA for 1 full turn at full effect (Currently -30 at full effect).

    Mind Honed (25 ENR) + Spirit Honed (+10 ENR for additional effect) Cost: 35 ENR

    Pipe Bomb: (+40 CHR/+10 PRE) For all those who step up, they better have something to say and sure as hell better back it up! Kinu, with a surprising level of eloquence, mean-mugs and cuts a promo that tilts the doubters, the detractors, and those discerning that they have something she wants. Used for persuasive haggling or the crushing of self-esteem!

    Mind Effects: Charm (Compel)
    Spirit Effect: Raise ENR costs by +15 in the following turn.

    An attempt was made, but I think I'm doing this wrong.

    I don't think I shall be so ambitous to recalibrate the stats at this point in time, but I may be fundamentally misunderstanding technique creation in 1.2, or something, it's a lot of information to parse and a lot of options to choose from.

    Is it the case that each stat attribute is assigned to techs within each alignment (ex: STR, SPD, DUR, AGL, SPD for BODY techs) and each level (Mudane, Honed, Epic) allows for some crossover between each alignment with other perks?

    The general concept for Kinu is essentially:

    1) Must get close to do damage
    2) Is agile/skilled enough to gain ground by dodging, and
    3) Can demoralize foes by talking smack at them

    This ought to culminate in dropping a brainbuster on someone which would cause physical and stat damage, but idk.

    I got some Technique ideas Gen.

    Once I'm out of bed and have some time I'll post some ideas for what you could do. I don't think you need to move any stats to achieve the mechanical concept you've described.

    I'm also aiming to rewrite the main Technique Guide today so that should hopefully make things clearer.

    Also I have an idea for mixed Techniques which might work.

    Okay, the long awaited Technique shop for Kinu. I'm going to show my process in order to create a resource for Technique Creation at large.

    Right, we have a mechanical concept and Gen has said that he's not intending to tweak Kinu's stats so l'm going to make suggestions for Techniques that I think would be benefit the character.

    Gen has already assigned a couple of his slots so I'll try and just fill the gaps rather than do a whole character's-worth of Techniques.

    Kinu's Affinity is pretty balanced across the three areas so she's got pretty diverse options so I'm going to suggest the following:

    She's Hulking Up! It's A Beatdown! [+40 PRE Spirit / +10 STR Body (Halved from +20)] Kinu goes into a rage and attacks her opponent in a flurry of blows. Spirit Effect: Follow-through Body Effect: Rage Costs 25 ENR. [Uses: 1 Honed Spirit slot, 1 Mundane slot [applied to Body].]

    This allows Kinu into the Rage state, which amps her formidable STR and makes her more tanky. Since her AGI is high, she's not overly bothered with the debuffs for SKI and BRA that come with it. The additional attack from Follow-through can be struck on PRE or STR, depending on how you think the opponent took the first hit of the Technique (which is locked to PRE).

    Outclassed In The Ring [+40 CHR (-20 for AoE) = +20 CHR] Kinu disparages the skills of her opponent with her quick words and dazzling demonstrations of her physical prowess. Overwhelmed by the cutting words and amazing skills, her opponents fall into despair and lose all hope in their ability to match up. Mind Effect: Debuff split between SKI and BRA [Uses 2 Mundane slots to make 1 Honed slot applied to Mind]

    This erodes the defensive options of a group of Kinu's opponents. By attacking BRA and SKI, they are much less likely to make HIT checks on people they attack with either CHR or PRE, pushes them down the turn order so they get to act later and are more vulnerable to getting hit by other attackers on most damage types, especially on CHR. Kinu's high CHR score means that making this AoE still would make a full effect a -30 to each stat for two turns which is very potent.

    Not Gonna Gas Out [+20 PRE] Kinu pushes herself to dig deep, keep going and pull out more incredible moves. Not for herself, but for her fans. Mastered ENR Recovery Technique [Uses 1 Mundane slot]

    This Technique is to assist with Kinu have broadly low Mastered ENR, due to the limitations of self-recovery it's not a lot but it might useful in a pinch to either keep her Install Technique running or to just get her back into bigger moves. This would also scale with any buffs to PRE that she might have active at the time.

    Though I do note that Issen means you can run her Honed Install for FREE! You cheeky bitch, I just spotted this! Inspired build work lol.

    So that's off the dome of what I would consider for her. Hope this is useful for some ideas for the character.

    Okay, this one has a couple of issues. You list as yourself as using a Mundane Spirit slot to get additional effects but the amount of effects and boost suggest that you've actually used a Honed Spirit slot. Further to that, assuming you've used a Honed Spirit Slot, you would need to halve the boost again to +10 because you're taking the effects rather than just taking the boost.

    And the ENR cost for invocation would need to go up by +10 to 35 ENR.

    Also, also, you might not want to have a Grapple in this move. That may seem counter-intuitive for a suplex but /mechanically/ you're actually making it less useful as the Enfeeble and Surge effects wouldn't proc until Kinu's next turn because Grapples necessarily hold action until the users next turn. A better choice might be Sweep, you can still chain into Crater and it all happens within one turn. Just a thought.

    I will circle back and make sure you've got enough slots to cover this.

    Fine, though Submission technically only chains from a Grapple under the current rules. I'm happy with Stun and Crater being there, in both instances Kinu is required to get to the opponent before they have their turn and either get out of the Crater or overcome the Stun so it's a bend of the rules but I'm fine with it.

    SPIRIT

    Mundane (10 ENR)

    Kishi Kaisei (起死回生 "Escape Death! Return to Life!) [+20 PRE] Kinu pushes herself to dig deep within, and through passion's sake, for hatred's sake, to keep going, for the heat of battle pushes her beyond her limits!

    Effect: Recover +20 Mastered ENR
    Fine. Though it's technically (Kinu's PRE stat [35] + Technique Modifier [20]) with a (- Technique Invocation Cost [10]) when used on herself. So, 45 Mastered ENR recovery personally, 55 to another character.

    Honed (25 ENR) + Body Mundane (10 ENR)

    SPEAR!!!: (+20 PRE, +20 AGL, +20 SPD): The straighest path to seizing glory is leaping in a straight line towards it to seize the initiative!

    PRE Effect: Chain: Follow-Through
    Body Effect: Charge
    Again, this doesn't add up if it's a Mundane Slot being used. Mundane would give you +10 as a Secondary and then would be halved again to +5 as you have opted to have the effect. Also, you've split the Secondary between AGI and SPD which suggests this is intended to be a Honed Body Slot?

    I'm also not super sure what the benefit of adding the AGI boost to this Technique is, seems like sacrificing DMG and HIT scores to get like a dodge boost if she misses perhaps? Not a huge worry but just noting it.

    Codebreaker: (+60 PRE, +20 SPD): Kinu counters an enemy's attack by catching their face while falling and driving it into her knees. Inspired Counter.

    PRE Effects:

    Same issue with the others, if this is a Mundane Slot and you're using it to gain Inspired Counter then that's a +5 not a +10. Honestly, as a Counter move, SPD isn't really as much of a factor, you might want to consider making it a Spirit Slot and then nudging SKI which is what drives Counter success.

    MIND

    Mundane (10 ENR)

    Poison Mist (+20 CHR) A victory earned by any means is still a victory - and more than anything Kinu hates the shame of losing! By summoning the vile energy within her, Kinu spits a toxic spray at an enemy!

    This one... huh, Spirit Effects only apply on Honed or above so you would need to upgrade the slot to get the benefit of the effect.

    Also, you have given yourself both a stat debuff and additional effect. The intention is that it should be either or. You can either have the split with SKI/BRA or you could have +40 on a CHR attack to inflict Compel.

    I also think you've used too many slots, I am switching from my work computer to my home one and will check that in my next post.

    Not much has changed. Decided to drop SPEAR!!! and redistribute the slots. Effectively I went down one route Nik suggested.

    - Suplex City is now Honed STR/Honed PRE, and relegated to one PRE effect
    - Codebreaker is now Epic PRE/Honed SPD. I realize the 100 ENR cost is kinda stupid mechanically, but thinking in terms of drama it'd be in character for her to bust this out as a last spiteful maneuver.
    - Pipe Bomb is now Honed CHR/Honed PRE.

    I hope this makes things square in terms of slot numbers, but may need a double check on this one.

    You've overestimated the ENR costs for your Multi-Slot Techniques, you only have to increase costs for additional effects purchased not for the whole slot. Also, some of your point allocations are a little off.

    Some corrections:

    On that note, small correct on the debuff effects of Poison Mist.

    Mind Effect: Debuffs [Kinu's CHR + Technique Modifier] in BRA for 1 full turn at full effect (Currently -30 at full effect).

    Other than that, all looks good. Will give your slots a once over as well to make sure this all works.

    I will also be tweaking the rules around Grapple, which will be a small buff to it to assist in game flow, so keep an eye out for that since Kinu is a grappler.

    I really like this one. ^_^ Getting a stun on the other character...maaaan, this could really upset things. They are stunned, lose defensive actions...ugh, the potentials are pretty ugly against someone like Kinu, who has a fair chunk of base damage, and can follow up on a stunned opponent with stuff like Cratering attacks and so forth.

    I...think the stats check out, but please review.

    Not sure if bog-standard actions like strikes need a specific tech slot, but in the interest of mechanical fairness, they will take a Mundane slot for now.

    EDIT: Latest build. I think it's viable, if spread a little thin - I really wanted to push for those 2 RAC turns, lol - but let's make sure the numbers are correct first.

    I think this is a bit out of my range right now so I must bow out for now. I will be following this though and hopefully get a better sense of things as it progresses.
