Erica Schultz is the writer. Is she any good.
The cover fills me with little to no hope.

So they can do cool logos, they just choose not to
I love that Laura is getting more spotlight. We're getting her in X-Terminators, Captain Marvel, and now this. (Am I forgetting something?) Plus her likeness seems to be the lead Nightcrawler assassin in SoS. Good times!

Now this makes me happy.
No idea what's it about but I already like what Im seeing. I have nothing against the soft Wolverine Laura but sometimes I like seeing no holding back. I get the feeling this isn't set in the current time though. The outfit looks similar to the one she wore when she escaped the Facility.
"This is me being reasonable"
Nice. This sounds great. Wonder why it’s a “regenesis” though? Which literally means “new birth” or “rebirth.” Obviously must have something to do with why she’s going by X23 again instead of Wolverine. Looking forward to this one.

Maybe they're finally getting around to contriving an explanation about how the tacked on retcon of her being genetically related to Sarah Kinney is supposed to make any sense, with it, you know, being completely at odds with both the methodology and motivation of her creation and Sarah Kinney's personal arc as depicted in her origin story?

Context is king.
X-23's most basic surface level characteristic that any idiot should grasp: Stoicism.
I don't demand that her every minor appearance be a nuance in-depth examination of her character, but is it to much to ask she be written in Archetype?! This is storytelling 101! If you want people to stay invested in a character, you need to, at the bare minimum, write them such a way that they can plausibly be believed to be the same character!
Couple points:
Obviously, it's way too early to know what any of this is about. They could just be using X-23 for branding, because it's the easiest way to tell audiences this book is about Laura, not Logan. Like it or not, the general audience will ALWAYS associate "Wolverine" with Logan, so using X-23 is just easier to market. She could very well be going by Wolverine in the book itself. She might not even be using a code name AT ALL.
As far as "Soft Wolverine," the idea Laura doesn't kill AT ALL now was always a misconception. Dialogue in ANW and other work by Taylor material makes it clear Laura is only CHOOSING not to kill if she doesn't have to, but that she doesn't consider it a "rule" (as Kimura found out). She had just largely been in situations that COULD be resolved without killing. She was certainly prepared to kill Chandler herself had TUOCS not done so first.
I still think that's easy enough to explain with what we already know:
The genetic samples were damaged. Although the X chromosome was LESS damaged, she still needed donor material to patch it for a viable clone. Sarah was creating the female clone off-books and against the direct instructions of Sutter and Rice at the same time she was continuing the attempts at the male clones, so likely couldn't access to the regular donor banks without drawing undue attention to herself (SOMEONE would have noticed shortages of whatever material was being stored). Sarah herself was the most convenient source of genetic material that she could access without being questioned. And given what we know of Sarah, it wouldn't have been out of character for her to make that decision on a completely utilitarian basis without considering the other ramifications.
True. But with nothing else to go on but the series title, it would seem she’s getting a “rebirth” or sorts as X23. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Hopefully we get a solicit soon. Regardless, I’m buying it.
And I never minded her going by Wolverine at all, but IMO Logan should’ve dropped the codename in that case. Let her have it and just go by “Logan”, with enemies and governments (and groups like SHIELD and ORCHIS) referring to him as “Logan, a.k.a., Weapon X; formerly known as Wolverine.” That could’ve been cool, and the title of his book could’ve become “Logan: Weapon X” with hers being “Laura: The Wolverine” or something like that. Since Marvel clearly isn’t going to do that, though, I’d rather see her go by X23 again I guess. That’s the name most know her by anyway.

I'm looking forward to this. Laura's had a pretty good track record with her solo series so far in terms of quality and hopefully this will be no exception, although I'm not familiar with the writer.
I must also say... I prefer Laura as her own woman and using X-23 rather than Wolverine, and also out of that ridiculous yellow costume.
