Stormtrooper Armor

Is there anything in canon about why Imperial Stormtrooper Armor couldn't handle Ewok arrows? Laser guns, I get, but arrows?

There are a lot of gaps in the armor, and apparently Ewoks tip their arrows and spears with a pretty nasty neurotoxin.

It's a blink and you'll miss it kind of thing but there's one scout trooper who goes down with an arrow in the armored portion of his back after the Ewoks launch their attack. Then again, their armor is generally supposed to be lighter.
