Sounds like a strange fit, no?
Liam Neeson, Leslie Nielsen...practically the same name , so it should work (note: it won't work at all).
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft
Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”
It's possible it may work but it won't be nearly as hilarious without Leslie. By the way, nice beaver.
Airplane! and other early Zucker brothers projects were clever and worked so well because they cast traditionally serious/dramatic actors in the lead roles of their comedies. Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, and Robert Stack were not comedic actors when cast for the roles.
So Liam Neeson could definitely work for a reboot.
But it will never been as good as Leslie Nielsen

I'm less worried about Neeson than I am Seth MacFarlane. I mean, Family Guy is usually good for a chuckle or two but I don't know if he can pull off the type of deadpan humor that this requires. Seth's characters are usually way to willing to wink and mug for the camera.
If this were an Airplane remake I'd be more skeptical, but to be honest I never thought the Naked Guns were all that great so a remake isn't that great of a sacrilege to me.

It can work:
Life is but a dream
They should roll the dice and cast Antonio Brown as Nordberg.
