Dear Fans:
I realize there's going to be a new Inferno storyline coming up soon, and Madelyne Pryor will play a significant part in it, but perhaps a few questions. When Madelyne Pryor first appeared in Claremont's original "From the Ashes' storyline, I was really impressed. Claremont had possibly recreated Jean as a new character, and she was well-written and one could understand her viewpoints. This was well done in the storyline where she confronted Scott about his qualifications and rationale with leading the X-Men. In the years that followed, she became the villain in the first Inferno series, but if you asked me who I preferred: Jean or Madelyne? I would have said Maddie. Again, this was due primarily due to Claremont's writing, Maddie seemed strong, loving, and not just someone to be rescued, but she also seemed to be more fully developed than the old Jean. She could fix an engine, assist the X Men, and just didn't whine about things. I hated how she turned out, and I never felt her fate was adequately resolved.
When Scott and Jean got married later on, it just seemed flat to me. It didn't have the emotional resonance that was shown when the X-Men's first leader got married for the first time. There was some discussion about this on the Dark Circle thread, and I was wondering what else other people thought.
Not trying to start a flame war over Jean and Maddie, but were there others out there who felt this way?
