Well… close. The Golden Age Aquaman's parents were famous marine biologists, and they modified his biology so that he could breathe underwater, survive the environment of the depths, and move in the sea as naturally as he could walk on land. But this was done through scientific means, not through sorcery. So think Captain Nemo if he didn't need to put on a diving suit in order to exit the Nautilus. But yeah; other than that, you got the concept I was going for.

Fair enough. It's kind of why I wouldn't mind him borrowing heavily from PAD's Aquaman look, and/or Jason Momoa; he definitely has the “two-fisted pulp hero” look.

Johns could always swerve. Have he was always evil or spy.

For a science-based Aquaman, What about the genetically Modified New Zealander from Deathblow’s comic?

You just made me realize something.
With the integration of Wildstorm into the DC universe, shouldn’t we have more Wildstorm characters active during world war 2 and the golden age overall?

Without posting spoilers I'd say after the ending of Flashpoint Beyond #6, I'd highly doubt it.
