What DC series, storyline, or character will you always hold on to even though it's no longer canon?
What DC series, storyline, or character will you always hold on to even though it's no longer canon?
The Power of SHAZAM! from Jerry Ordway
Others have their Huntress, mine grew up in Wayne Manor.
Helena Wayne Debut.jpg
Empress raising her parents from YJ. It's a what could've been.
Definitely Great Darkness Saga!
Is Robinson's Starman still canon?
"My name is Wally West. I'm the fastest man alive!"
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.
JLA: Year One. It remains one of my favourite DC books down to this day.
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — No, you move."
Hawaii Kon. I do not do the Lex/Clark Clone version.
Bart's friends from Manchster, AL. I admittedly am not sure of their canonical status at this time.
'90s Tim Drake.
Earlier Bronze Age Black Canary who is not a legacy, but a widow dating Ollie.
Pre-COIE Hawks. Non-evil Jean Loring. Silver Age Ralph and Sue instead of the buffoon with a wife who has disdain for him.
Non-aged-up Jon Kent. Chris Kent and Thara as general characters, even if not the specific storyline.
Wally West's good parents from pre-COIE. More mature/capable/respected/romantically-faithful Dick Grayson of an earlier time. Earlier version of Raven, too.
Alfred who did not raise Bruce, and a Bruce with healthier relationship dynamics are favorites of mine, but I can't say I really "hold on" to them.
Similarly, I have a fondness for the early appearances and not-originally-published solo Vixen, but there's not enough there for me to really hold on to.
I like the original Marv Wolfman and George Perez Anti-Monitor. I ignore the Geoff Johns Mobius version that changes his origin completely.
For that matter, I also prefer the original Krona. I don't like the Geoff Johns version that depicted him as looking more similar to the Guardians of the Universe, and I just tend to ignore it.
Definitely, my next choice would be...
The SuperBuddies
Morrison's New 52 Superman run.
Pretty sure this could still stand as canon, if we've gone back to Pre-Flashpoint continuity. After IC restored Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to the founding line-up of the League, the retcon (in a 52 backup) was that Black Canary joined the team pretty soon and she, along with GL, Flash, Aquaman and J'onn, were active during the team's first year, while the Trinity took a bit of a backseat.
That's because Shazam wasn't CM3/Freddy's magic word. His was "Captain Marvel"...which admittedly wasn't a great choice. Why couldn't he have been Lt. Marvel or something?
Edit: My own choices? Max Lord pre-Didio. A flawed but good man at heart.
Post-Zero Hour Legion. My favorite is the Legion pre-Five Years Later, but I liked the Reboot version, too. No reason they can't both exist as the Legions of alternate worlds.
Will Payton Starman actually being Will Payton and not Prince Gavyn.

Seconded. Plus his supporting cast.
Also:
Classic Legion of Superheroes (i.e. pre-Five Years Later. Keep some elements of FYL like Rokk and Lydda getting married.)
Classic Swamp Thing and Abby Arcane.
Rebirth-era Dolphin (still canon as far as I know but who knows how long that'll last?)
