I'm alone in preferring Bendis run over Johnson

Thus far I've read 3 volumes of Philip K Johnson Superman run... largely stuff relating to Warworld.

The art and writing is clearly top notch but the actual story concept and the colorless design just did nothing for me.

I actually never hated Bendis but also didnt think he was the best fit for Superman. But in retrospect I'm realizing I enjoyed it more then I thought. Often all over the place and his start stop dialog being an issue-- over all the stories he told excited me more.

I'm extremely happy to see Superman's return to earth and see Johnson tell more conventional stories about Superman.

Anyone miss Bendis? I realize this forum holds a deep hate for Bendis in some very vocal members. But I thought I'd see if I was alone in not liking the Warworld story. I'll never reread it.

There are some who dislike PKJ but those tend to dislike Bendis even more, so yeah you are fairly unique in that regard. I like them both, Bendis had a better grasp of Superman’s voice, but PKJ is still good in that regard and he’s a far better plotter than Bendis was. Bendis had a lot of great ideas and concepts, but his plots tended to meander about and end where he wanted them to without necessarily winning over the reader. Jon suggests they build the United Planets and everyone just shrugs their shoulders and goes “why not?”, I’m glad Bendis did that because it’s the most proactive Superman has been in ages, but it’s hardly the equal of what Hickman did to establish Krakoa for example. In that regard PKJ establishing Warworld as this ancient construct with lots of opportunities for storytelling going forward is a much better example of worldbuilding.
