Aquaman ain't shazam. That movie made a billion albiet with china. It might underperform. But, aren't we jumping the gun to predict it tanking. The movie was fun with some bite to it.Aquaman himself had heart and did some badass stuff.People might be turned off by dc itself. But aquaman 1 did fend that off well. Also, didn't gunn and momoa have a meeting.I gunn pretty much said his lobo hasn't cast yet.I am not much of aquaman fan. But,did love what they did.More of this..pls.

If Shazam does get rebooted in the DCU it’ll probably be a while until it happens. Sad this franchise is probably gonna be on the back burner for the foreseeable future with one of the big causes being the Rock’s ego.

Or maybe the general audience are just not interested in Shazam and its sequel and it looks like the trend is slowly spreading to all superhero movies.

Nah, “we made it for the fans, not critics” was the OG regime’s damage control talking point.

Will Flash tank with the audiences though? With Keaton Batman in play? With a fair bit of publicity? Given the overall popularity of the Flash brand?

Again, Gunn had plenty of time to cut these scenes from the movie. He didn’t. Again, his plans might be in flux. But this is leaving the door open for now.
I was pointing out Gunn had no real reason to cut them because the way they were made, most of the audience will see them as fun gags without expecting much more out of them.

Btw, the movie is bombing, I don't see what kind of follow up they are supposed to get anyway.

Incidentially, who are these critics? I've read plenty of fairly positive reviews of the movie too.
RT is not a reliable metric to know if a movie is good, imo.

Some fun Shazam! Fury of the Gods Rotten Tomatoes math:

    🟢Overall Tomatometer (164 reviews): 54%
    🟢Top Critics (38 reviews): 25%
    🍅Tomatometer sans Top Critics (126 reviews): 62%
    🍅Audience: 86%

The Top Critic score is so low it dragged the whole thing rotten.

Saw someone suggest something elsewhere that I think has merit, namely that the Superhero Golden Age of Film is over and we’re heading into a period where only the A-Listers will be able to generate interest: Batman, X-Men, Spidey… maybe Superman depending on Legacy. But the days where you could put out a mediocre film starring a C-Lister and make a billion like what happened with MCU Captain Marvel are over.

Puts Gunn in a bit of a tight spot since he loves the C-Listers so much.

He was talking about Affleck wanting to direct a DCU project. He said it recently and Affleck just made it clear that was never the case.

As for your other comment, I'm not a Snyder fan or have an "ideological" dislike of Gunn. You can have misgivings about Gunn and not be a Snyderbro, believe it or not. I honestly roll my eyes at the obsessive hero worship of either of them. I find Gunn's work hit or miss and he's kind of insufferable on Twitter, but I appreciate him promoting the source material so much and I hope the DCU movies are a success. I'm just not taking everything he says at face value because he's obligated to promote a corporate product.

Eh, I'm in a bunch of leak forums and there's been a lot of evidence for a long time now that the Flash actually is very good, despite whatever behind-the-scenes drama. I don't know if it'll be a financial success, but I doubt it's going to be a bad movie.

As for dumping everything to just pump out even more Batman stuff, that strikes me as boring as hell. I like Batman, but there's more to the genre than just him.

Like you said mediocre films starring C listers can’t just coast their way into a billion anymore. Really while a billion might be asking too much these days I think films starring C listers can be successful as long as the movies themselves are great. Plus it’s good that lesser known characters still get a chance because if their works are successful then that means more franchises DC can rely on.

I think the only "risky" movies Gunn has in the pipeline are Authority and Swamp Thing. Everything else is going to be TV/streaming.

And Superman might be in the Authority film, so they’ll have an A-Lister showing up to boost interest (maybe). But Gunn’s DCU depends on Legacy doing well.

Well Gunn did say that he wants to use the Diamond characters (the Trinity) to help make other characters the Diamond properties of tomorrow.

Plus as long as the budgets are manageable.

That is what killed Amazing Spider-Man 2. That film was technically successful making 700 million at the box office but because the budget was a bloated nearly 300 million it meant 700 was barely a profit. The Flash is gonna run into the same concerns as the constant development troubles ballooned the budget to the point the movie might need to make a billion to prove successful.

Like you said a billion for every film is too much, nothing wrong with making several hundreds of millions at the box office. The key is making sure the budget is an excessive bloat.
