    FAQ:

Q: What are the best places to purchase omnibus that have a good price, reasonable shipping costs and package the box properly?

A: www.cheapgraphicnovels.com (Sell omnibus and oversized hardcovers for 50% off on release week)
www.instocktrades.com (have an excellent packaging reputation)
    www.talesofwonder.com

    For Canadian buyers...

    Chapters/Indigo: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/home/

    Great prices (comparable to Amazon.ca)
Arrives very quickly (3-4 days when choosing standard shipping)
    Free standard shipping over $25
They charge directly when you pre-order (this could be a negative to some folks)

Amazon is a "buy from at your own risk" vendor in that they don't do a very good job packaging the product, BUT getting a replacement is hassle free and amazon prime members get free 2-day shipping. They also can ship to many countries at a much cheaper price than your usual vendors.

Q: Is there a place to get an out of print (OOP) omnibus for cheap?

A: There is no super secret place for getting old OOP omnibus for real cheap. If someone knew of a super secret way to get an OOP omnibus for cheap (if they were smart) they would not share it with us. If you want an OOP omnibus you need to search locally and/or look on ebay and hope to get lucky. It can happen, but just watch the thread and see what happens. People do get lucky, but there is no trick to it. It often involves being at the right place at the right time.

Q: Will such and such run get an omnibus treatment?

A: Marvel has no pattern whatsoever for releasing an omnibus. There are many things that have not gotten an omnibus treatment that there is high demand for such as Uncanny X-men Vol. 2 and Hickman's Fantastic Four run, while things such as Avengers The Crossing and Man-Thing get an omnibus. In otherwords, your guess is as good as ours. However, anytime a Marvel movie comes out there does seem to be an omnibus that also comes out. In the beginning Marvel would only release a silver age omnibus to go along with the movie. Now it seems that whenever a new movie comes out there is a silver age tie in AND a more modern/popular run. Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, Spiderman all followed that pattern.

Q: How can I get adequate insurance on these expensive omnibus that are OOP
    Originally Posted by Jelybely8

    1) Schedule them individually with our insurance provider (similar to what you would do for an expensive piece of jewelry). Scheduling individual books will be more expensive, as you will need to pay a premium for each scheduled item. On the upside, the insurance company has full info on the item and its replacement cost, so if something happens you would easily get what you need to replace the book.

    2) Include the books as a portion of your total home/possession replacement value. Typically, she said that if an item is not worth about $1,000, scheduling it would be more expensive than necessary (i.e. overkill). Since I don't have any books worth $1,000 (my most expensive is probably ~$300), I have just taken multiple photos of my collection and archived them offsite. Every six months or so I do a quick estimate of what the whole collection is worth, then take that value and make sure my homeowners insurance is sufficient to cover it as a portion of my total possession replacement value.

Please don't take my word as verbatim, though - talk with your insurance provider, and they should be able to give you better guidance based on local laws and regulations.

    Q. How do I know if an upcoming Marvel hardcover will have sewn or glued binding?

"Oy. You know, you CAN tell from the solicits whether something's going to be glued or sewn, right?

If it's advertised as coming out the same month as the rest of that catalog's stuff (i.e. three months from now), that means it'll be printed in the US and will be glued. If it's advertised as coming out three months AFTER the rest of that catalog's stuff (i.e. SIX months from now), that means it'll be printed in China, and will be sewn..."

"If a book listed in, say, the March 2013 solicits, is listed as "on-sale June 2013" -- three months later than everything else -- that means that book will be sewn. That's your tip-off. You can safely pre-order that book."

"Regardless of whether or not some books printed in the US are sewn, ALL books printed in China are sewn. Which means that if a book is advance-solicted by three extra months, you can be guaranteed that it's China-printed, and therefore sewn -- and can pre-order it with confidence."

Q: My expensive book is damaged, can it be fixed?

A: Yes it can! Cerd the nerd has put together an excellent explanation/guide as to how to fix sewn bindings like those on Marvel Omnibuses if it has any problems

I did what I could to move over all important info from the old thread. Let me know if anything is missing(aside from Merrick starting this) and I will add it.

I messed up the roman numerals. It is supposed to be VIII.

I am glad this is up and running already, it was quite a shock to see the boards with no posts.

A couple of the links don't work because they cut them off (ex. the OHC link cuts out "ont/buy_ma" and replaces it with "...": http://collectededitions.com/storefr...rvel_ohcs.html). You may want to hyperlink them.

I see we now have two threads. Maybe a mod could combine both...and maybe fix my numerals?

Someone made a thread with the previous title. I like it being called collected editions, but somehow miss the "omnibus" name in it.

Everyone better use their old names and avatars (or something similar).

One more thing: the old link to the marvel thread now goes to Superman. Silly CBR.

It would be helpful if you would add formatting to the information posts at the top instead of the plain text copy and paste job. Some of that could also be cleaned up as well, as we don't need things like old moderators edits still standing out.

That second post is apparently severely out of date and hasn't been edited since 10/22/13 in the old thread. Please keep the information up to date. That would solve so many questions in this thread if the up to date information was correctly displayed in the first posts of the thread. I believe other users provided updated information as replies, but it was never edited into the first posts of the new thread by the person who created the thread last time around.

Since you started this thread I hope you'll be up to the task of keeping the information in the top couple of posts up to do, less this be "stake claiming" which is against the new CBR rules. (This thread's title is also apparently against the new CBR rules.)

Didn't take long for this thread to make it's way back from the void.

Considering it's a brand new thread, and the old threads are lost FOREVER (kind of, except not really), somebody should absolutely post up some pictures of their shelves. Start as we mean to go on!
