I'm looking forward to start buying some of the epic's. Good format for me. I actually started with Omni's but got out of it for the most part.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Been following this and the various other iterations of the thread for a while now, and I have to give you guys my thanks for the website deals that have been found from time to time for UK buyers. c:
I also welcome the inclusion of collected editions in all their myriad versions: The Epic Collection line is absolutely fantastic, and I own every single title released so far. Highly, highly recommended.
The only thing holding me back from the epics is the spines. I saw pics in the old thread with the little horizontal line at different places on the spine. Do you think they will line up with each character volume? From what I've seen there is about a two inch zone where the line will randomly appear. I would probably only get the spiderman volumes, so that's why I'm asking. I know its a petty thing to worry about, but the books will spend more time on my shelf then me actually reading them.

Thank you. I think a global thread is much simpler. Time to fill it.
FYI also I believe Free Shipping for Amazon is now at $30 instead of $25.
Do you know if there is a way for Joshua to make you the OP for the thread since you seems to be the one who keeps stuff most up to date and you format it well also?
It's not for me but I have to say the box looks really beautiful.
Speaking of, do you guys know if the Miller Daredevil Omni reprint sold well? I'm really hoping for a reprint of the companion but Marvel's comments were very coy "we'll see, maybe..."
The one thing that's keeping me from Epics is that right now my Marvel collection is very homogeneous with only OHC/Omni so that would be a jarring break since I'm a spine OCD freak.... and the spines on the Epics are really kind of ugly.

I haven't bought floppies for almost a decade (not counting picking up Snyder's Batman #1 three years ago) and have only been buying trades/hardcovers for the past few years now after getting back into comics. Despite my collection being about 90% DC, there was a hole in it that wasn't filled until today.
When I was 14/15 I went to the comic shop every month and picked up the new issues of Ultimate Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man that were held for me. I started buying the former from issue 35 and bought it until I "quit comics" at issue 82. I have so many memories reading USM, but never got around to getting those first 34 issues in collected form. I've not bought Marvel ever since, only having a book or two from them on the shelf...but that changed today, when I got the USM Omnibus collecting those issues that have been missing for so long. I got so nostalgic just flipping through it!
Sorry for the long post, here's two pics. It meant a lot getting these issues!

And since you thread it's time for updated shelf porn.

Not as big as some of you but decent.
Next on the list are UXM 2, Stern ASM, Annihilation and I'm seriously debating Infinity but the horror stories keep making me hesitate.

Man I really dislike how this whole thing looks right now, hopefully in two weeks we can get back the old layout at least. Don't see why everything had to be removed, but alas, here we are! New day. New posts, new thread!
Wonder if the DC and General threads are back up and running as well!
From the pics I've seen of them all lined up, YES, that horizontal line is not always lined up, even within the titles that are the same 'brand', like IM and Thor. Weird, and poor quality control. I also dislike the fact that the volume number is NOT on the spine, but rather on the back cover. I'm guessing they didn't want the vol. # on the spine as they're being released out of order, and it might cause confusion for people if they saw vol. 18 and vol. 13 and that's it. Although in the end, that's really what is available, so you're not really fooling anyone, but I'm not a marketing guru so what do I know.
Still, none of this is holding me back from getting them. Personally, I'm going to get all the Avengers and Thor ones, 'cept where they cross into Omnibuses and OHCs I already have (not many), and might get some more as time passes and I have more $ to throw around. The OCD part of me would like to get ALL of them, even where they double dip into SA omnibuses, etc... so in the end I'll have that nice long run of continuous EPICs for Avengers, Thor, etc..., but right now I just can't justify the extra $25-30 to double-dip. Hopefully I can keep that in check over time.
No, they won't line up. But two inch zone?, it's not even a 2cm zone never mind a 2" one. Sure, it's annoying especially as I can't understand publishers find keeping the spines and logos aligned so difficult, all I can assume is they just don't give a damn
But on the other hand I don't think I have one single series of books that has escaped this entirely, from the Asterix hardcovers I have where just one single volume has a different logo on the side, to Dynamites Red Sonja Omnibus with the different sized logos, or the Dark Horse Star Wars Omnibus changing spine design.
Point is if you were going to skip a book series because of a lack of perfect uniformity then you'll find it very difficult to collect any series without running into problems at some stage.
As for the series number on the spine?, I'm glad it's not there, it can only be a sensible move not to alienate the collectors who want to pick and chose which books to buy, without having to look on your shelf and see 'gaps' in your collection thanks to numbers on the spine. I'm not interested in 60’s or 70’s comics so I don't want my epics to start with the number 10 on the side or whatever, same as I have the Omnibus volumes for a lot of issues so why would I want to pick up an epic of those issues?. Certainly not going to pick them up just so my Thor epics don't miss out four volumes. Smart move by Marvel.

Nice.
The Ultimate Spider-Man omnibus is my favorite omnibus because like you I grew up on it and is what really got me into comics. I can keep rereading that omnibus and I can never get bored. I suggest getting the Death of Spider-Man omnibus as well (I was able to get a new copy from Ebay for $25 a couple months ago but it seems the prices have gone up now). Now hopefully we can get Vol 2 when TASM2 hits blu-ray/DVD (but I doubt it).
I agree that the designs not lining up on the spines is annoying. But like the others said, halfway through the line the design will change entirely and drive you even more insane. lol
Hey everyone. It took me some time, but I finally figured it all out! It's good to see everyone back here again. I can't wait for the great advice, pics and conversations that inform my purchases.
