"Danielle... I intend to do something rash and violent." - Betsy Braddock
Krakoa, Arakko, and Otherworld forever!
Great issue. I love this team and wish they could stick around beyond this arc. The X-Men were showcased well (especially Polaris and Laura; Kwannon felt a little vanilla but that's a minor issue and considering I've never read this series before this story, I'm pretty invested in Carol and Jess too. It was great to see the Brood purposely avoiding absorbing Laura's healing factor to protect itself. I really enjoyed the twist that the Brood had captured them and locked them in a false reality too. The transition was just the right level of jarring and intriguing.
My favourite part, though, is how the X-Men are being written as heroes working alongside other heroes. History is subtly acknowledged, there's no manufactured friction or forced moral ambiguity, and everyone's on the same side. It's refreshing.
It's not Thompson's fault, but the only problem I had is that the debate and decision to kill Rogue lacked any weight. When the Resurrection Protocols are in play, that kind of dilemma doesn't really have any impact...Laura even said as much to Gambit. It felt like it should have been a no-brainer to simply get the Brood out of the picture, especially when there are heroes there that don't have resurrection as an option.
"When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — No, you move."
So when does Thompson replace Percy on the X-line?
