    The roots of reggae go back to music styles like ska and rocksteady. One of the first to create this style was New York based soul singer Doris Troy, who made a fortune with her often covered song "Just One Look."

    She was the daughter of a Barbadian preacher, so the Caribbean influences were there from the beginning.
