We saw DC and Marvel stop books for a restart of all titles like we saw with New 52 and post Secret Wars.

It depends on a few factors.

Like how long you originally planned the run (since some don't want mini series labeled on the book) as we saw with Milestone and even Wildstorm.

And we have had books that sold restart again.

Miles Morales had done that and none of his runs have ever sniffed below 20K.
Black Panther did it to as the for Coates run was doing well before the new volume.
She Hulk did it.
Aquaman sort of did it in the 90s.

And may I remind everyone books that sold well get AXED too. Green Lantern Mosaic says hi. It sold and editorial axed it and it had nothing to do with Hal going Nuts.
Burnside Batgirl sold and editorial ran off that creative team.
Green Lantern Corps got axed as it was selling as did it's follow up Lost Army.

There are politics behind the scenes that screw over books.

Yeah, they kinda are. Son of Kal-El ended when Clark came back and they re-launched the entire Superman line. The only book that didn't get a numerical relaunch was Action Comics. it was a line-wide relaunch, hence Jon's series ending and re-launching with a new series like DC and Marvel do constantly with their books with every line-relaunch. The only line that tends to not get impacted by this business model is the Bat-brand, and even then only Nightwing, Catwoman and Harley tend to leave unscathed.
