The battle itself wasn't interesting, it ended too fast, and there weren't any interesting moments.

I think you make good points. The way they defeated Apocalypse was clever, but it wasn't really set up at all that I remember, and there should have been a moment at the end of the penultimate issue when it looked like all hope was lost (but in fact the villain's ultimate defeat has been set up). Some of the characters who died in issues three and four should have been killed in issue five.

Also, the Laws of Plot hold that if two superpowered children stow away with the quest to defeat the bad guy then the two superpowered children do something essential to defeating the bad guy. I can't decide whether I like the subversion or not. I half suspect editorial interference.

But even if the plot construction was a bit wonky, it felt as though the dark was there to set off the light rather than just be dark for the sake of it, and I can get along with that.
