I wonder if it was supposed to be revealed earlier. I think someone speculated it was supposed to come out in that issue that had Peter and MJ separated on the cover even though it had nothing to do with the plot of that issue or in MJ/BC because they're still stuck in limbo even though Dark Web is over.

That's irrelevant at this point. The fact that they dropped this bombshell in a recap page shows how incompetent these people are. They have failed at even rudimentary storytelling.

They either failed to mention it out of incompetence, or figured we all knew they were married because they're living together and have kids.

Imagine if they do an issue similar to #14 of this run, except it’s for the “6 months” MJ was missing. Instead of seasons, we go through years lmao. It sounds like something right in Spider-Man editorial’s wheelhouse to green light. Exposition dump to the max.

I think DeFalco realized this as well or intended for it to sound weird because when he reuses it during Spider-Girl as well as Spider-Man: The Real Clone Saga, it's always in caption boxes rather than being spoken aloud and it sounds a bit more natural in those boxes than it does coming out of Peter's mouth.

Who knows when it's DeFalco, his dialogue style is, weird sometimes lol.

But again, MJ's reaction can indicate even he's aware that what Spidey said is weird.
