Finished reading the Infamous Iron Man TBP today. Having the arc collected like this is really helpful since some of it was covered in Bendis's Invincible Iron Man. It's too bad that Dan Slott dropped the ball with Doom with his version.

Finished reading the Infamous Iron Man TBP today. Having the arc collected like this is really helpful since some of it was covered in Bendis's Invincible Iron Man. It's too bad that Dan Slott dropped the ball with Doom with his version.

I just (re-)read the first half of that trade today, encompassing the 12 issues of Infamous Iron Man, and I had forgotten how well written and crafted this story was because of being so infuriated with how badly it ended and how many sub-plots really deserved further development. I'll re-read the second half soon, I know it kind of wraps up there. But there really were elements of this story that were really enlightening and original to Doom while still being faithful to his character. There were little bits here and there to criticize, but overall they captured his voice and mannerisms and the underlying plot with Mephisto was really excellent (and yet again confirmed Triumph and Torment as canon). How that played out in the Doctor Doom miniseries (issue #3) wasn't nearly as satisfying. I also really enjoyed the unfiltered opinions of heroes and villains when talking about Doom, and how it acknowledged how wide is his legend and how formidable is his reputation in the Marvel Universe. I also found refreshing a story that is told on a human scale, with bystanders and innocent victims and touching on the supernatural and multiversal without drowning in it or letting it overwhelm what is really a touching story of the search for redemption.

Anyway, it's a worthy collection for any Doom library.

I agree. What disappointed me is how badly Slott handled Zora Vukovich/Lady Victorious by having her and Johnny hooking up on the night before her wedding to Victor. It's also disappointing both Lady Victorious and Amara Perera have been mostly forgotten.

I found Ultimate Invasion #3 to be a disappointment.

The teaser text states: "After KANG descends upon the City of Tomorrow, the Illuminati must regroup! IRON MAN has a heart-to-heart with Tony Stark! DOCTOR DOOM - the anti-Maker - prepares his own plans to deal with this evil Reed Richards... and the Ultimate Universe that the Maker thought he had rebuilt frays at the edges as they prepare for cosmic war!"

I do have to say that Ultimate Doctor Doom was one of the biggest disappointments of Ultimate Marvel. Perhaps it was inevitable when they made the Fantastic Four into teenagers.
