Eh, I still find the ship to be particularly forced. The 2 really don’t have any actual chemistry in the comics and even if better in the movies, it still just feels like it’s there just to be there rather than as an organic part of the story.

The comic writers pretty much dropped it after Sitting in Tree.

It came out of nowhere and went nowhere.

Sitting in a Tree is nearly two years before Into the Spider-Verse, but I don't know if the script for Into the Spider-Verse would have been written by then.

Actually, Gwen seems to have dropped out of college and is back home on Earth-65. Despite her superhero identity not being a secret there, she managed to get a job at a place called Smoothie Shack. Mary Jane has to remind her that she's late for a shift, but her boss (and boyfriend?) doesn't seem to mind.

And... spoilers:

turns out the Shadow Clones are, as the title suggests, clones, but are not villains - they're being controlled by a device their creator attached to their necks! Gwen Ock's already been freed, and when Reed tells her she's a clone, Spider-Gwen realises that that pretty much makes her her daughter! Which she isn't happy about. They're attacked by Sand-Gwen before the conversation can continue and the issue ends there. Oh, and the other half of the clone genetics? They're from the Earth-616 villains, who somehow ended up displaced to Earth-65 at the start of the issue and had to be sent home by Gwen.
