Superman and Wonder Woman



If we think of collaborations of DC Comics heroes, we immediately remember Superman and Batman. There is another one that would be good to see more often: Superman and Wonder Woman.

Since both debuted, some fans have wanted Superman and Wonder Woman to be a romantic couple and, while it has happened on some occasions, the truth is that it is difficult to imagine Clark with someone other than Lois Lane. That doesn't take away from Kal-El and Diana making a great couple in the work camp.

The idea of giving a magazine to the two heroes of similar colors, materialized on October 9, 2013, when Superman/Wonder Woman #1, written by Charles Soule, went on sale, with pencil art by Tony Daniel and inks by Matt Banning. This comic had another 5 alternate covers for collectors to choose one, or get them all.

In September 2011, the DC universe was relaunched with The New 52. This was an initiative that consisted of a line of 52 magazines and that constituted a new beginning for all its heroes, similar to the post-Crisis era of 1985.



With the relaunch, some risky changes were made, several of which were criticized. One of them was to make Superman and Wonder Woman, a romantic couple.

The relationship between the two begins in Justice League #12, on August 29, 2012, written by Geoff Johns, with art by Jim Lee (pencils) and Scott Williams (inks).

The couple maintained their relationship for some time, just before the premiere of Superman/Wonder Woman.

In the publication, a little of this relationship is explored, in addition to some other interesting topics such as the fact that Diana wants to teach Superman how to fight, taking into account that she is a warrior with hundreds of years of combat experience, while Superman depends on her invulnerability. Diana was trained by the Greek god of war, Ares.

Although there is a true feeling between the two, Clark and Diana decide to keep their relationship a secret.

In the first arc, Diana and Clark discover the existence of Doomsday; however, in this version, the monster has not fought against Superman, because "The Death of Superman" did not occur. Kal-el knows Doomsday from the Kryptonian archives, because the monster comes from his planet, where he had been exiled in the Phantom Zone.

The couple will have to stop Doomsday. What they ignore at that moment, is that they will not only be against the destructive being, but against Zod and Faora, two of the most implacable soldiers in Superman's home world and who have been able to free themselves from the Phantom Zone (Ghost Zone). This story continued its development in the crossover (or cross between stories), Doomed, a light analogue of "The Death of Superman"; however, in the new version, Clark does not die.

The Superman/Wonder Woman comic had a life of 29 editions, ending on May 18, 2016.

The first monthly series - and the only one so far - to introduce Wonder Woman and Superman, began 10 years ago.
