Like clockwork… Officially licensed merch is shelled out yet SMWW in-story, even as friends, is just non-existent now because stupid reasons.

I got the impression that this type of readers are a big chunk of fans that engage online with creators and get reassured and pandered to. Weird.

I guess free likes and retweets mean more than financial support? I mean it clearly shows the pandering ain’t doing any good when the books have to start out as minis and ongoings they expect to succeed end up with an abysmal debut or drop like a brick after the first issue, which was reliant on **** ton of variants.

Books being their own unconnected thing is probably the future of comics. Most franchises can only sustain minis nowadays, and main in-continuity series are relying on constant relaunches and increasing the number of variant covers to sell. Their YA novels don't need these gimmicks.

YA novels don’t have baggage. In-continuity books are shackled to safe, middle road. Elseworlds just don’t have the creativity it once had.
