Dennis Quaid would be my pick.

Quaid will always be my ideal Hal if one could pluck from any time period, (The man's even hosting that "Top Combat Pilot" tv show) but I'd pluck him from the mid-late 80s. He'd have been too young in '78, imo. (the below image is from "Frequency" which was in 2000, but you get the idea)

If we can pluck, I would always say Kirk Douglas, though I know he was designed off of Paul Newman, Cool Hand Luke was always a little too laid back for Hal, Kirk's Hal would epitomize man of action.

    Full Reveal.

    Overall, not crazy about it

I like the base, costume and paint job but those body proportions (especially thighs) kind of ruin it for me. While I like flying poses, just not feeling this one

I thought it was going to be based off of EVS's Art from the preview, but this one looks like Michael Turner's.

Back in the day, I thought Jan-Michael Vincent would made a good Hal. I loved Airwolf.

But yeah, Dennis Quaid would work.

Yeah the muscles are a little bit too much.

I'm going to answer my own question. Actors in 1978? Duh - Well, we know someone who had just had success playing a hotshot pilot playing off a goodie two-shoes farmboy - Harrison Ford!

Harrison does have that swagger I associate with Hal

What about Hal's head and hair? Are fans pretty forgiving in the way artists do his head shape and hairstyle?

    That's a great choice.

Just saw the discussion about the new animated Crisis movie. I wonder if Hal will be it.
