The art is good, the story is concerning.

How broke is Tony? How is he able to repair/maintain his armor? He needs parts, parts cost money. And it's not like he's going to the junkyard to get the parts he needs to repair a highly sophisticated piece of tech.

And if Tony is drinking again, then that is becoming a tired crutch by writers.

There are a lot of questions after issue 1 and not all of them are good.

BECOMING a tired crutch? That train already left the station. I wish Iron Man writers wouldn’t fall back on that tired trope.

Let me explain the effects of shorting in simplified terms:

Let's say Feilong wanted to start an onion farm instead of a tech company. Feilong agrees to sell a contract giving 4 percent of his onion harvests forever to whoever will invest in his farm. This is the IPO, which in Feilong's origin got him a 150 million dollars.

Later Feilong's parents decide that they think Feilong is a terrible farmer and make a bet that his farm will go bankrupt. This is what shorting is.

Scenario one: Feilong's farm is very prosperous and everyone knows it. In this scenario, betting against his farm's success has zero effect. Feilong barely notices it happening and doesn't care. Feilong's parents lose their bet.

Scenario two: Feilong's farm is very prosperous, but lots of people hear about Feilong's parents betting that his farm will go bankrupt and believe they must know something secret. These people panic, and sell the contract to receive 4 percent of Feilong's onion harvests for a tiny fraction of what they paid for it. Feilong notices this, and buys out that contract himself for a tiny fraction of what he sold it for in the first place. Now he doesn't have to give anyone 4 percent of his onion harvests. This is called Stock Buybacks. Feilong's parents shorting his stock and provoking a price crash turns out to have helped Feilong tremendously.

Scenario three: Feilong's farm is in sad shape. He needs new tractors, new fertilizer, just new equipment of every sort for his farm to remain competitive. So he decides to sell a second contract for 4 percent of his onion harvests. Now he'll have to give 8 percent of his onion harvests to investors, but it can't be helped. Feilong's parents publicly talk about how they are betting his farm will go bankrupt, but most people think his parents are idiots. Someone buys his contract for 4 percent of his onion harvests for a high price, he uses that money to buy new tractors, fence repair, whatever, and goes back to competitively farming onions.

Scenario four: Feilong's farm is in sad shape. He needs new equipment, barn repair, fencing repair, etc, in order to continue competitively farming onions. He tries to sell a contract giving 4 percent of his onion harvests to someone in return for the up front capital needed to do all this. Feilong's parents publicly announce they they think he is a terrible farmer and will surely go bankrupt soon. Feilong tries to sell another contract for 4 percent of his onion harvests forever in return for up front cash. However, most people believe his parents, and so only offer tiny amounts of money in return for that contract. Feilong's attempt to raise enough money to save his farm via selling this contract fails, and his farm goes bankrupt.

Only in scenario four is Feilong's parents shorting him highly destructive, and only for very indirect reasons. So his origin should be retconned somewhat to make it a scenario four situation.
Fair enough, though I could see Feilong being the kind of spoiled @$$hat who thinks having his own parents bet against him is a good enough reason to try his hand at outright corporate supervillainy.
The spider is always on the hunt.

Yeah, I really don't like how this is starting out. Someone attacks Tony, kills an innocent bystander and Tony has a guilt trip....that lasts for about 10 minutes. The same someone remote controls an innocent person in a suit to attack Tony so that Tony could possibly hurt or kill them.

Is this person trying to play mental games with Tony? Is he trying to push Tony back into drinking? It looks like they don't have to push very hard.

Another tired trope: Hero rejects help from all of his friends but then someone else comes along that they hero barely knows and all of sudden they're best buds.

At least when Cantwell brought in Patsy, Tony didn't reject all of his other friends.

For those that don't read X-Men, here is a quick summarization of Feilong since his inception and what he has coming for Tony.

Thanks for the information. I stopped reading X-books a quarter century ago (too many books, too many crossovers between said books, too many characters), so the recap about Feilong certainly comes in handy.

Glad I could be of help. That’s exact why I shared it.

Anyone read TEST Kitchen on Marvel Unlimited? Tony wrecks a food truck, tastes the owner's food, and likes it so much he hires Anna Amayama as his personal chef. He has her make meals for Emma Frost, the Avengers, and even the Asgardians. What he doesn't know, is that she's Edwin Jarvis's niece! The Avengers note that her marinated chicken tastes like Jarvis's, but it was only later that it was confirmed that she calls Edwin "Uncle Jarvis" (odd that it isn't Uncle Edwin, you wouldn't think his own family would call him Jarvis, that's his surname). And Tony got her a replacement food truck for Christmas, the series ending on a crossroads, should she go back to running that van or continue working for Tony? There's going to be more of this series.

Is the preview for next week's issue out yet? Usually there is a preview showing the first few pages, but I can't find any online.

I’m looking for it as well and not having any luck. Hopefully it’ll pop up soon.

I’m going to have to purchase those. They sound pretty good. Tony was also in a Marvel Unlimited story featuring Deadpool and Sue Storm that I heard about that sounded damn good.

Can't buy Marvel Unlimited's digital comics individually. They've turned up on the less legal places, if you don't want to subscribe.
