At first I thought that all of the fur lining on her outfit was meant to be some sort of idea that she was wearing clothing that would insulate her from cold, Viking weather. Than I noticed the dress, and yeah I don't know what is going on.

So, I got bored and rewrote my comparison of Dani and Nova, adding a bit. Explains why I'm a fan of both characters, anyway.

Gonna cross-post to the Nova thread.


Similarities:

• Both tend to forget they're allowed to ask for help.
• Both leaders.
• Both rebellious and will argue any order they disagree with.
• Both have a parent who is/was a teacher.
• Both became heroes as teens.
• Both lost their powers for an extended period of time.
• She's the first Midgardian Valkyrie. He's the first Terran member of Nova Corps.
• She was the last Valkyrie, for awhile. He was the last member of Nova Corps, for awhile.
• Both infected by and survived the techno-organic virus.
• She cut her way out of a Draumar. He ripped Annihilus's guts out through the guy's mouth. (Point being, they're not afraid to get messy when needed.)
• Both have best friends who died and came back, leading to a stained relationship.
• Both died and came back traumatised. (But who hasn't?)
• If you count Dani's time with SHIELD, they've both been in law enforcement.
• Both transformed into evil henchmen/WMDs by dictators. (Hela in Dani's case, some galactic emperor whose name I don't remember in Rich's. )
• Both written really well by Abnett and Lanning.
• And, currently, both are fighting in other people's wars.


Differences:

• Highschool teacher vs highschool dropout. (Although Rich did go to college later. Don't know if he graduated.)
• Fantasy vs science fiction.
• Mutant psi powers vs. tech-based physical powers.
• Rancher's daughter vs. city slicker.
• At first, she hated her powers, but he defined himself by his.

Edit: I just found a typo in my post of the prophecy. It's supposed to be "Conquering dread" not "Conquering dead".

Interesting.

So... unlikely that this would ever happen, but now's your chance to brainstorm. How would YOU write this / them getting together? What would the circumstances be? Would they join a different team together, than what they are currently on?

Getting together as in in the same comic? I mentioned in the Nova thread that I'd like to see a comic made up of some of the characters from both X-Force and the New Warriors. (Although I'd be hard pressed to limit which other characters were on the team. ) And I certainly wouldn't mind if they ended up in any book by Al Ewing, but that seems extremely unlikely, at the moment. Would have been nice to see Dani in X-men Red after Realms, but the timing isn't going to work. Too bad - it looks like Rich could really use a psionic Valkyrie at the moment.

If you mean romantically, I'd have to give it some thought. He is good friends with her "brother", now...

For a New Warriors/New Mutant team-up I would use Gamemaster as the villain, frustrated by the state of superhuman he traps the teams a mental world to test their resolve and force them to live up to their potential and take leadership roles away from the older generation.

I like that idea, norj. I was disappointed when we found out Gamemaster was alive in the Krakoa era (I was hoping he died quietly off panel), but since he is, they might as well make good use of him.
