Probably because magneto and Xavier have pretty much the same character flaws, controlling, hubris, self righteous, ‘sacrifices’ (of mostly other people) for the greater good, but magneto is more murdery and more self righteous, without the ‘trying’ to do ‘better’. So a lot of the writers seem to approach it as Xavier being ‘worse’, because he’s a hypocrite for trying to do better, but often failing. But it’s just, no, ‘trying’ to be better does not make someone ‘worse.’ Plus, magneto can do more ‘badass feats’ which comic nerds (including writers) just eat up and try to rationalize as good character traits. But bringing Joseph back would just be ridiculous, lol. Just bring back regular mags and have be upset with Xavier for making him lose the respect of the ‘martians mutants’, much more and better drama there.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. I did a little clap for Immortal when X says that it’s a good thing Mags didn’t have X’s powers, all humans would be dead by now. Of course, given the reveal, have to take that assessment with a grain of salt.

It could be another “No, you can’t go. It’s not safe” situations.

Based on the description for the March solicit, I fear this is the case. I’m probably seeing the art through this lens and am wrong and maybe she’s actually just reaching out to pinch his nipple!

On the plus side, someone on Serena on Twitter pointed out that Gambit appears to be fighting Thieves Guild members in that preview for R&G. So, that's something.

Ooo, good eye! I’d assumed they were generic Hand assassins, but the context of Odessa with the Guild gives me hope.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to notice this stuff, but I happened to see a couple of historically interesting pieces of Gambit art recently!

This first one is Jim Lee art, apparently for the cover something called Speakeasy #119 published months ahead of X-Men #1. I thought it was interesting to see Jim Lee implying a romantic dynamic between Gambit and Rogue this early. As far as I know, the first on-panel acknowledgment of their attraction is in what's essentially a background gag in X-Men #3, and this seems to predate that by a while--Lee hasn't even figured out Rogue's X-Men #1 costume completely yet. This next one is even more interesting given recent events--Gambit and Lila Cheney are totally making eyes at each other in this image, right? I'm not sure exactly what this image is. Obviously it's circa Uncanny X-Men #275 during the Starjammers/ Shi'ar storyline. I assume it's a panel from one of the issues, but I didn't check. I saw some brief reexamination of those issues and Gambit and Cheney's interactions in them in light of the recent Gambit series, but I didn't see anyone point this out. Pretty cool! Good find! It's always weird to see art from this period where it's transitioning from the 80s to the 90s, based on costumes and everything. Even Gambit in that first image looks more "sinister" than he did later.

And yeah, Lila and Remy are definitely checking each other out in that second
