The year really gets going around April or May I say.
Was only able to read a smaller amount of books this month. 120 to bring the total to 609 for the year. Hopefully will get some more reading done in May.

I thought most of it was decent, on par with a lot of Conan pastiche, but nothing spectacular. My favorite of that stuff was the SSoC arc by Zub and Patch Zircher. I had read a chunk of it before (most of the first year) but kind of forgot about it during the pandemic shutdown. I had a mail sub for the print issues of CTB, so I got the entire run, but hadn't read the post-Aaron stuff previously. I enjoyed the Zub run, but some of the art was uneven at times. Overall I would say it didn't reach the heights that 70s Conan did at Marvel, nor did it sink to the lows of some of the 90s Marvel Conan did (the Conan title in particular). It was on par with a lot of the post-Thomas 80s Conan in terms of story, but lacked the dynamics of a John Buscema or Gil Kane executing those stories visually. The Zub stuff showed a decent grasp of Conan and the Hyborian Age, but the CTB issues spent a little too much time with Conan out of his element for my tastes. Others may like that, and those stories have their place, but I don't know that the second Marvel run as a whole did enough to establish Conan IN his element for those not already familiar with those characters for stories with him out of his element to really work well. Stories with Conan exploring the far reaches of lands off the Hyborian Age map can work as a change of pace, but there weren't enough stories done of Conan in the established Hyborian kingdoms of his milieu in this batch of Marvel stories to set a pace that needed changing. They weren't bad stories, but reading them in a chunk like I did highlighted how untethered Conan felt from his traditional milieu, especially when a large chunk of the stories told took him out of the Hyborian era completely by bringing him into the present of the MU. Again those types of stories ca work, but only if you've done the work to establish the baseline of who Conan is in his world. Most Conan fans know that sure, and the bulk of existing Conan comic stories have established that, but the recent Marvel run didn't, and Conan's world is as much a part of the appeal of the character as Conan himself, and I think the biggest failing of the recent Marvel run was that too much of it was spent taking him out of that world instead of telling great stories of him in that world. The best pieces of the recent Marvel stuff, were the stories that did that.

Right on, thanks for the Conan takes. Hope the new series ends up being cool too.
Here's my comics for the month, very few, was playing a lot of that new Zelda and whatnot. Aiming to get it going more this month.
One Piece - ch 685
Deadpool 03 (1997)
Deadpool 04
(#7 for the year so far)
Goal is 400. So to hit that I'd need to average 57 comics for the next 7 months. I'll see what I can do!
