Andy’s age here kinda matches the age up Wally’s twins had.
It’s still odd since only a year has gone by. But Aquagirl on deck.
Mera can't be replaced in an Aquaman story, she has been present since word go in Aquaman comic, she's in any version be it cartoons, animation movies, lego movies, comics, video games etc. She is the Queen of the 7 seas and probably the most powerful member of the Aquafamily, Arthur included. One of the main flaws of Lost Kingdom, is lack of Mera, due to the Heard controversy, in the first movie Mera was the driving force of the two characters.
Arthur and Mera are also one of the most iconic couples of DC.
Dolphin is hardly a secondary character.
Agreed 100%, although I can't see any development of that happening again in the near future again. Unfortunately Aquaverse confirmed that plans for a new Aquaman comic have been canceled.
As to the brief affair with Arthur, it looked ridiculous, in that run he was old enough to be her father, but in that run everything was changed even his parentage and name. It was more like an elseworld than a proper Aquaman.
Those who believed the rumors that Dolphin might replace Mera, have a very basic idea of Aquaman to believe it was possible. I have lost count of how many kids Arthur and Mera share in various adaptations.
I honestly really enjoyed Dolphin's role in the Abnett/Šejić Rebirth Aquaman as a kinda mute freedom fighter who helped Arthur relearn how to a hero without being a king. It doesn't need to be a love affair thing, and if they really needed a female lead then she totally could've filled that role without romance
with Arthur Jr in the movie you cannot have another female lead that is not the mother of the child. How do you explain that she's not present? killing Mera off screen is a no go.
The problem is that they should have either re-casted Mera's role or stuck with Heard.
It is all Hamada's fault, he made many awful decisions, his interference in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom might have cost WB millions.
I really enjoyed the movie, but it was pretty awkward at times how severely Mera's role was cut. So many scenes where she was in the background but had nothing to do or say. I'd be really interested in seeing a director's cut restoring her role.
