She's looking a bit like Letitia Wright's Shuri there. Mostly the hairstyle but the facial features too.

So...Photon issue 02 took an interestingly weird and slightly unexpected (the Beyonder was teased) turn. He/She's like no Beyonder I'm familiar with and while I have absolutely no issues with their visual androgyne, that outfit is...hideous! to say the least. You can create realities with snap and that's the outfit you choose for yourself...in the immortal words of Heidi, "Auf Wiedersehen"

Sartorial suckitude aside...this was another really engaging issue and despite my usual distaste for all things Beyond, I remain quite invested.

Yeah, she jumped or created an alternate universe)...where things are different and apparently the Avengers never met the Beyonder. Good to see Doctor Druid is still a prick.

On the other hand, I was fascinated by her power display. I always assumed she could do this but it cool to see on paper.

I don't -love- Eve Ewing's dialogue for Monica. It feels like once she submitted a draft, Marvel sent notes for her to Black it up. Monica saying stuff like "back at the crib" wouldn't be jarring at all to hear from Luke Cage, but sounds off from a ~30 year old woman. It's closer to By Odin's Fade than not, and because everything else about the book is well-written it does stand out.

That said, everything else about the book is well-written and I'm engaged in the story so far. What I'm most interested to see is how much of it is influenced by whatever MCU Monica gets up to in The Marvels; we know they love synergy. In any case I'm happy this book exists and happy to support it with my coins.

Monica's probably nearer 40 than 30, and therefore the same age group as Luke. She debuted in the 1980s so in-universe she's been active as a superhero for around a decade, and she was already in her mid 20s then - they weren't going to trust a kid with Avengers leadership. And don't forget she sometimes refers to herself as Auntie Monica. Also, her MCU version was a child in the 90s (when the Captain Marvel movie was set), and it's now (when The Marvels will take place) the 2020s, 30 years later. So MCU Monica is about 40 years old.

Ah, got it. Thanks for breaking that down for me, because of Marvel's sliding timescale shenanigans I head-canon most of the main Avengers and X-Men as 30-35, younger when you start breaking them down by group like New Mutants, Young Avengers, etc.
