If memory serves, when the Black Lanterns went kaboom in Blackest Night a bunch of random dead characters were resurrected. I don't recall the explanation, but I think it played into Brightest Day and it was a mystery whether the revived people were good or bad and blah-blah-blah...
Point is we got Max back and he had a grudge against Diana.
Would killing Maxwell Lord have been a better ending to WONDER WOMAN 1984?
Perhaps a bit too similar to Superman/Zod in MAN OF STEEL?

Nothing about the Maxwell Lord in WW84 justifies the idea of WW killing him.
Diana killed Maxwell Lord because she had no choice. This fixation on Diana being this Punisher like murderer of villains is by fanboys with a limited idea of what a 'strong woman' is and think blood, death and violence gives extra validation to their childhood interests. Not referring to you, Thirteen but I've been in other comic circles and I am just frustrated by the constant fixation on her killing Maxwell Lord.

People remember Diana killing Max but not what she did to avoid that outcome.
Exactly, it was the in-universe shenanigans that made it something it shouldn't have been.

It's not a question of why she killed Max but rather what she did before she made that choice. I believe many superhero fans are so used to the idea that killing is wrong or at least morally questionable that they reflexively block out all context when a superhero does it. I've seen this very thing happen in other conversations about superheroes using lethal force.
I remember reading these issues. Wasn’t lord basically a hero? Who went crazy after getting some sort of super power. How it get that power? He didn’t have any powers before he get that one, right?
