^^^I will admit I was hooked after the first issue of Battle Chasers.

I very much looked forward to reading it each and every month.

And as to the 1998 Iron Man series? NOW we’re talking!
GREAT first issue, a long time coming for Tony fans. A great writer who knew what made Tony tick, a dynamic artist, a return to the status quo…but not quite! That issue really set things up for a stellar (and not talked about much) run for Iron Man. I was very excited after reading it.

All that and Rumiko Fujikawa, Tony’s best love interest ever!
Glad to hear it, Riv86672! But yeah, this run hardly gets any press. Nevertheless, it's still a personal favorite (XD)

    Good choice.

Back when Deadpool was a great read.

It might be cheating a little, as it's not the first of a series, but it is a number 1.

"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

What made that run stand out was the approach that Busiek took. He implied that Tony merely traded in his alcoholism for another addiction, being Iron Man!

Also Sean Chen's art was crisp and that was the best looking version of the Iron Man armor as well.

"The Marvel EIC Chair has a certain curse that goes along with it: it tends to drive people insane, and ultimately, out of the business altogether. It is the notorious last stop for many staffers, as once you've sat in The Big Chair, your pariah status is usually locked in." Christopher Priest
