Aaaaaarrrrghh! My eyes! HOW does this horrible Shamor panel keep showing up?

Maleev actually apologized for this depiction on Twitter, IIRC. I think you are correct and it was something in the script or a joke with / on Bendis that led to it.
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

But I can't let this contest go without posting my favorite page from Sub-Mariner from my favorite issue. It was a one and done, pencil, inks and story by Dan Adkins.
It was a fill in to help the ailing Bill Everett meet deadlines, and if you see my cover from Sub-Mariner #57, you see Everett still delivered the goods.

This was one of my Namor favorites also. Dan Adkins was on fire for this issue on all levels -- story, pencils, inks ... did he also do the colors? It was clearly a work of the heart for him.

Naw, Reed's the guy who gave himself a nickname:

I found this color guide online. The consensus is Adkins did the colors.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Even in the Heroes Reborn universe 616 Namor and Thing still duke it out.

I'll cast my vote for Englehart Humperdinck, since I almost went with that cover.
