Put in another way, how can you target anything with such a weapon: to see your target, your eyes must receive rays of light, something it can’t done if your super-eyes emits rays.

Very dangerous, this weapon… even it doesn’t get out of control.

Man, Superman writers just kept giving him more and more random powers without explanation all the time. His glasses design being a product of some low-level hypnosis, I believe, is also a thing. Super-ventriloquism. Amnesia kisses. Etc.

If they were aiming for logic they could have just said that Superman's relationship with the Sun's Energy meant that he had control over the full electromagnetic spectrum, including being able to emit microwave radiation as well as being able to use X-rays.

Of course, that would mean they could give Superman even more superpowers than he already has. Superman's solar-powered feats break a fundamental law of physics.

An alien planet with pipes and carrots and the latest in hat making technology, gotta love those wacky DC covers.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Now there's a super-hero or super-villain that surely somebody ought to put into a book: Microwave Man, the human cell phone tower!

    That's radiowaves, not microwaves.

Good sleuthing! Now this has me curious.

Also in 1940, the short story of Day the Earth Stood Still was published. It was then called Farewell to the Master, and Gort was known as Gnut. But I wonder if the short story included the monster's eye beams we later saw in the film versions.

I think the idea of power coming from the eyes goes back to Greek mythology and Medusa.

Not an entry: Speaking of The Comet, they did a revamp of him and some of the other Red Circle heroes around 1983. The Comet title was particularly dark, with the title character killing people and referring to himself as a murderer. There's also a Hangman plot where original is a child abuser and when his son takes over the mantle and tries to stop some street crime, he gets the crap beat out of him. The comic was supposed to be a mini but it only lasted 2 issues. It's interesting because it appeared a few years before the "grim and gritty" trend.

But I almist went for Icctrombone for the snowmen, but giant ape won out.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

An unrealistic but delicate cover posted by Catlady in training.

An honorable mention to Scott Taylor for Howard the Duck attacked by the Space Turnip…

Bryan for what I assume is a Ross Andru/Mike Esposito cover.
