Love the spidey remark about Ben's hate for Peter being his downfall

This whole thing started with Ben having a nightmare of Peter and MJ laughing at him and Janine.

Why is it ending with no sign of MJ? Why is it not ending with Peter and MJ fighting Ben and Janine? Yes, I know about the mini with MJ and Felicia in limbo. But that's my point. This whole event was poorly plotted.

(This post implies Dark Web was plotted at all.)

Peter is talking about Ben as if the latter was just evil from the start

So I don't like to make assumptions about writers themselves, especially with how outright hostile so much online interactions can be. I am going to assume that Wells concept for this story was "meant" to be a homage to edgy 90s comics in all of it's excess. But the fact that the catalyst of all of this is Ben Reilly's heel turn is certainly a choice.

Especially wild that the X-Office through all of this used this storyline to give Madylne Pryor, a character who arguably got done dirty by editorial influenced for decades, an actual redemption story. And Wells just quadrupled down with Ben. lol

It's like the Anti-Green Lantern Rebirth.

In essence, Rek-Rap is replacing Ben as Spidey’s “clone” but Wells is trying to make him more distinct by slightly resembling Miles’ clone Shift. It’s dumb but if Ben kills him then Spidey has a silly reason to hate Ben… if he lives, then we get more cringey stories about a character called Rek-Rap. It’s a lose-lose situation!

It feels like the X-Office and the Venom...office(?) just used this event for their own ends. Maddie gets a redemption story and Venom advances along doing it's own wonderful narrative.

It's the only positives that came from this anyway.

OMG that's what it is! I was wondering why Rek-Rap seemed kinda familiar. He's a much MUCH shittier version of Shift!

Maddie just had a redemption story last year. It wasn’t great, but it was better than this is.

Actually it feels more like Wells specifically wanted to use 90s Venom for this, yeah?
but then Venom is just gone from the event immediately, off doing his own thing for his book. So he was created to be the Venom clone to have a hook for the event
