an event where the character are self-aware to recognize how stupid all of it actually is, does not make the character's motivations in this event any more awful...

I, for one, am jazzed. Spidey\X-Men hits all my right spots. Dark Web has been a goofy Ghostbusters-y romp with some genuine pathos around Maddie and Ben, and I'm certain that Wells is cooking something zesty for the climax.
