Default You've just been named DC Comics "team editor". Your assignment...

DC has put in in charge of all their team books, you have carte blanche. They want a list of all the DC teams you think should have their own monthly books, one line or so about what makes each team different from the others/the tone of the book, and examples of team members who would be on each team, ASAP. And...GO!

Titans: Keeping what is coming up.
    JSA: Keeping as is
    Doom Patrol: Same

    Adding:
Legion of Super-Heroes. I'm a traditionalist...so going with the Levitz Legion but bringing in some of the new additions like Gates, Kid Quantum, Monstress. International intrigue on a universal level, but also hopeful, bright. Jonathan Hickman writer/Kenneth Rocafort artist

Suicide Squad: Amanda Waller is back to basics and not the mustache twirler she's become. She's about protecting her country and at times even her world the way she sees fit and that means sometimes you gotta break a few eggs...or heads. Rick Flag however is just a slightly more moral than she is and does his best to equal her out and protect the people he's given to lead...even if they are the worst of the worst. This book would follow the lead of Ostrander's successful series utilizing a mix of heroes who walk a more grey line and villains who just want some time off their sentences. Most of them would live...maybe. Christopher Priest writer/Carlos Pagulayan artist Grace Choi, Capt Boomerang, Rick Flag and Black Orchid are the mainstays.

Young Justice: The middle children of the super hero world. Kon-el, Tim Drake, Cassie Sandsmark, Bart Allen...they are trained by the best and dont need their support any more, but they aren't quite grown up yet. They want to change the world though. They set out with some friends: Bunker, Powerhouse, Empress and Solstice, to find other young adults with powers who might be looking for some direction as well. Cullen Bunn writer/David Marquez artist

Infinity Inc. The children of the JSA. Nuklon, Fury, Scarlet Scarab, Northwind, Jesse Quick, Jade, Obsidian, Brainwave Jr. Children of the Gods. Popular not for what they have done, but for who they are, followed and hounded by paparazzi and not allowed to privacy or simply life. Some of them enjoy the spotlight, some of them dont, but when Fury and the Scarlet Scarab return to the waking world to unite the team against creatures and beings that have escaped from the Dreaming realm they step back into the spotlight. Jeremy Adams writer/Jose Luis artist

justice league: Shadowpact: Taking a much cooler name that Dark, the Shadowpact squad is the supernatural branch of the Justice League that tackles adversaries on a more mystical realm. Pulled together by Madame Xanadu, the team usually has to overcome their own differences to face what lies before them. Zatanna, John Constantine, Nightshade, Shining Knight, Detective Chimp, Blue Devil, are the regulars that everyone else gravitates around like Swamp Thing, Phantom Stranger, Deadman and Lilith Clay

The Justice League The Titans have the earth protected. The JSA has America protected. Shadowpact keeps the dark things at bay. What's a Justice League to do? Set up a satellite and protect the galaxy. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Barry Allen Flash, Martian Manhunter, Kyle Raynor Green Lantern, Aquaman lead the charge against all who would chose to subjugate the Earth for their own purposes. A united force of the Earth's heroes standing guard against any who would come against them. Mark Waid writer/Stuart Immonen artist

I would to do something new but familiar, try out new combinations of characters and familiar characters in new/different situations than what we are used to seeing them in. I would also have 1-2 characters from each team who can appear in more than one book.

Justice League: Space: Members: Superman (leader), Martian Manhunter, Starfire, Adam Strange, Dr Light/Kimiyo Hoshi, Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Hawkman/Katar Hol and Captain Atom, Mr Miracle, Big Barda and Orion.

They are based on a space satellite and are meant to be the first line of defense against any alien threats. The team also spies on and also monitors previous threats like the White Martians and Starro to see if they're up to something. The team also does deep space missions (usually after leaving behind someone to man the satellites) and help out other alien races.

This team deals with threats like the White Martians, Saturnians, Thanagarians, Sun eaters, Kanjar Ro, etc.

Justice League: Earth: Members: Wonder Woman (leader), Aquaman, Green Lantern/John Stewart, Flash/Wally West, Celsuis (Arani Desai), Tempest (Joshua Clay), Atom/Ryan Choi, and Black Lightning.

This team protects people from threats originating on earth. Raven, Celsius and Tempest haven't been members of any incarnation of Justice League and I think it's time they got some more exposure in the League. John has been in space for so long I kind of want to see him back on earth again.

This team is more light hearted. More focused on group interactions. Villains they face include characters like Amos Fortune, the Key, the Royal Flush Gang, Queen Clea, Queen Bee, Prometheus, etc. Also villains from some of the heroes own rogues gallery that they might not be able to handle on their own.

    This team works closely with:

Justice League: The Godwatchers: Members Donna Troy (leader), Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, Fire, Ice, Empress, Blue Devil, Aztek, Amethyst, Tempest, Vixen and Nightshade.

This team keeps a close eye on any pantheons that might threaten the earth. I chose characters who are either associated with various pantheons or magical lands. Raven also consults for this team. This should be the hardest hitting team especially since the roster alone opens door for villains like Trigon, Morgan le Faye, Circe, the Titans of Myth, Zath, Incubus and a wide range of myths to be explored.

Members can sometimes fill in for others or swap back and forth between teams. Wonder Woman and Donna will sometimes switch. Sometimes Raven and Zatanna will switch.

Also, with this line up it's also a great opportunity to tour the other mystical lands of the DCU.

The Titans: Beast Boy (leader), Supergirl, Billy Batson/Shazam, Dr Fate/Khalid Nassour, Green Lantern/Kyle Rayner, Zachary Zatara, Mary Marvel, Crush, Kid Flash/Wallace West.

More members needed for this line up.

I tried to include characters who are teen or young adults but have not been a part of the Titans. The hilarity would be in seeing Beast Boy trying to lead everyone and trying to reign in lose canons like Zachary as well as trying to establish a connection with characters he hadn't met before.

Classic Titans villains like Gizmo, Jinx, Fearsome Five, maybe the Brotherhood of Evil for the DP connection are suggested.

Teen Titans: Members: Robin/Tim Drake, Wonder Girl/Cassie Sandsmark, Connor Kent, Impulse, Miss Martian,

    (membership could use some work)

Basically, just go with the classic line up. Take cues from NTT and try to treat the characters as part of their own worlds and not Justice League Jr who fights the League's left overs. Don't define them too much based on their mentors.

Doom Patrol Members: Honesty, just pick whoever but has to be someone connected to this franchise.

Experimental book where writers can try and bizarre, strange, out there idea, situation or circumstances. Maybe take a page out of Black Mirror for this one and explore the bizzare situations one could find themselves in in a DCU that's full of stuff like aliens, monsters and magic.

You, sir, should be an editor at DC.

I liked the idea of the infinity Inc. as burned out celebrities. But, Scarlet Scarab instead Silver Scarab? Is that part of the plot?

Justice League: Premiere DC team, addressing highest level threats (multiversal, otherworldy)
    Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash-Barry, GL-John, BC-Dinah, GA-Ollie, Hawkman, Hawkwoman-Shayera

Titans: Earth's premiere team, focused on global threats
Dick, Donna, Wally, Vic, Starfire, Gar, Raven +Superman-Jon, WW-Yara, Batman-Jace

Outsiders: Dealing with more covert threats, sometimes outside the law
Black Lightning, Red Hood, Joker's Daughter, Artemis, Thunder, Katana, Metamorpho

JSA: Earth's OG team, training the next generation
Flash-Jay, GL-Alan, Power Girl, Huntress-Helena W, Stargirl, Cyclone, Wildcat-Yolanda, Dr Midnite-Beth, Atom Smasher, Jade, Obsidian, Dr Fate-Khalid (pretty much roster as is...)

    Legion: Earth's future
Retroboot team, but moving forward w/ addition of some of the other version additions as the newest members (Laurel Gand, Dragonmage, Quantum Kid, Zoe Saugin, XS).
Skip the Supermanboy/girl characters for a while so it's less tied to the present.

    Teen Titans: DC's youngest
Damien, Emiko, the Super Twins, Kid Lantern-Kelli. Let them form the friendships we saw with the original fab 5 titans, and let the adventures be more whimsical.
(not kids as battle hardened mercenaries)

Lastly, I fully expect to be called into head editor's office for trying to publish too much content!

I would like to have teams to explore the different sides of the DCU so not perpetual copies of the Justice League for me:

Justice League The team of teams, they deal with the bigger dangers, the more bombastic adventurees, the most extravagant villians.

    Sentinels of Magic
: This team is where you go when you have to deal with mystical menaces. They move in the darkness where dark things must remain.

Legion of Super-Heroes: The future world where the veterans Legionnaires had transform the old headquarters in an academy where superhumans of all the universe go to train as superheroes.

StormWatch: Here superheroics clash with political intrigue and diplomacies are balanced against any kind of superpowers. StormWatche police the superhumans of the world, and the countries who produce them, willing to eliminate any potential threat at any cost. And not even the JL is above them.

Freedom Fighters: Set in a parallel universe were the nazis conquered the world and Uncle Sam is a symbol of rebellion, abook with a tone of war stories with superpowers.

Titans: I don't know what approach is coming, but I would make the Titans as the Sueprheroes next door. Meanwhile the JL soars the sky in his spaceships, the Titans runs in the streets helping the people, and talking to the neighborhood with a more friendly attitude.

The Terrifics: The team of Mr. Terrific who use them as his exploration team to strange and new realities, puzzling technologies and strange life forms. Sci Fi crazy adventurein strange new worlds.

Challengers of the Unknown: Can a team of non powered humans survive in a world of powered gods and monsters? The Challengers of the Unknown teach you how!! You will not need superstrengh nor magic rings or utility belts or masks to survive the trials these people have prepared for you, only tenacity and team work.

R.E.B.E.L.S.: Vril Dox, the son of Brainiac returns, now as a cosmic anarchist, with a team of anti-heroes who oppose to the cosmic forces than tries to submit the freewill of the planets to universal orders which are the path to cosmic slavery.
"Never assign to malice what is adequately explained by stupidity or ignorance."

"Great stories will always return to their original forms"

"Nobody is more dangerous than he who imagines himself pure in heart; for his purity, by definition, is unassailable." James Baldwin

    JLA
    JSA (set on Earth 2)
    Titans
    Legion of Super-Heroes

I'd add one more 'lesser' title on a trial basis -- Outsiders, Suicide Squad, Shadowpact, Infinity Inc, All-Star Squadron, Metal Men, Doom Patrol Young Justice. Maybe do a 6 to 12-issue mini-series of one of these per year.

Justice League Universal & multiversal threats dealt with by a rotating cast of heroes (Called as crisis requires).

Titans With Titan Towers located worldwide, a HUGE cast incorporating all past Titans while also taking in Global Guardians etc.

Green Lantern: Honor Guard Kyle & Guy patrolling outer sectors and taking on the worst of the worst.

Darkstars Ferrin Colos and the Darkstars return! If GLs are the military, Darkstars are the police force.

Legion of Super-Heroes Young heroes of the 31st century unite to defend the United Planets from all who threaten them.

JSA Earth-2 heroics. A reset of the franchise with Bruce Wayne Commissioner of Gotham, married to Selina Kyle. Dick is an adult Robin (have to update that costume though...). Jay, Ted, Alan & co

Checkmate The DCU espionage division. Arsenal, Manhunter (Kate) and co. under the direction of Director Bones.

Secret Six Catman, Deadshot, Scandal, Knockout, Bane & Ragdoll. All have made plenty of enemies solo & as a team. Now somebody's murdering heroes and all signs point to the Six.
They need to find the person(s) responsible, all while dodging underworld reward chasers and the Outsiders who are hot their heels.
"My name is Wally West. I'm the fastest man alive!"
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

Justice League: Monthly series. This book centers on the world's most popular and influential super team. This NGO primarily engages in crisis response and disaster-relief work, and they are the first line of defense in the event of an alien invasion. Made up of characters who started out as vigilantes, they sometimes disregard geopolitics to save lives. This causes friction with various governments, who don't fully trust them. While they're entirely well meaning and earnest (if not open), the fact that they even exist shifts the world's balance of power pretty dramatically, leading to a new Cold War, in which governments engage in espionage and unethical experiments to create counters to the team. This small roster, character-focused book centers on the team's founders and key decision-makers, with regular appearances by other major political players in the DCU. Main Cast: Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, Diana Prince, John Stewart, Barry Allen, and Megan Morse. Regular Guests: Arthur Curry, Amanda Waller, Michael Holt, Brion Markov, etc.

Justice League Unlimited: Bi-weekly series. This book centers on the same team's larger 50+ character roster. The founders/decision-makers would be background characters. Each plotline would focus on a shifting group of 2-6 characters, who are put together on missions based on the crisis at hand. Any character in the DCU is game to appear here, but I'd like to see the center of attention be popular B-listers, some characters close to retiring from superheroics, and some characters just starting in their careers. Would love to see Jaime Reyes, Kara Kent, Oliver Queen, Dinah Lance, Vic Sage, Helena Bertinelli, Mari McCabe, Buddy Baker, Firestorm, Fire, Ice, Long Shadow, and others get spotlighted.

Justice League of America: Monthly series. This team is actually separate from the one mentioned above. It's one of the U.S. Government's responses to the Justice League. These heroes work for the government and for the national security of the American citizenship. They're not bad guys or fascists, but they are patriots who can find themselves between a rock and a hard place. They have to deal with bureacracy, red tape, international laws, jurisdiction, etc. They also have to engage in Hollywood-style marketing to boost their popularity. There is friction between the true blue patriots on the team and some of the shadier folks they have to work with. Main Cast: Captain Atom, Magog, Booster Gold, Ted Kord, Maxima, Amazing Man, Major Force, Commander Steel, etc. Basically this world's version of the Ultimates. Lex Luthor supplies them and acts as a consultant to the team, which falls under Amanda Waller's authority. Would prefer to call themselves the All Stars.

The Outsiders: Monthly series. An independent covert operations team. While the Justice League's covert operators bring corruption to light in order for governments to handle it, the Outsiders take the law into their own hands, acting as judge, jury, and executioner. This team is led by Slade Wilson and includes some former Justice League members. This version of Slade was actually a mercenary who was hired to train this version of Bruce Wayne to become the Order of St. Dumas's "Dark Knight" while Bruce was living in Paris, but Bruce turned his back on ever becoming a killer. Slade doesn't like Bruce for always taking "half-measures," so this is his response. It's a Punisher-Daredevil sort of relationship. Includes classic Outsiders like Katana, but also some new members like Bloodsport.

The Suicide Squad: Monthly series. No change to the concept as you know it.

Checkmate: Miniseries. Like the Suicide Squad, but the folks here aren't seen as disposable. Waller prefers to use them if missions can be done without wild card elements involved. Basically do what the CIA did in South America. Was originally called Team 7.

The Titans: Monthly series. These former sidekicks splintered off from the Justice League to help train underaged people with super powers. If the Justice League itself started training the under 18 crowd to put their lives at risk, it would turn heads politically, but since it's Robin doing it, it's less frowned upon. No publically known base of operations for the obvious reasons. Internal conflict because not everyone here has the maturity to deal with interpersonal conflict like an adult. The friendships on this team are particularly close because there's less bureacracy and because the characters bonded at a young age from being in life-threatening situations. Disagree with the Justice League from time-to-time, because their inexperience makes them more optimistic. The Breakfast Club for superheroes.

The Outlaws: Monthly series. This team secretly works alongside the Justice League, but they remain separate because their wetwork could get the Justice League into hot water politically. Not killers, but definitely break the law to get answers. Not even all the founders know that Batman is coordinating with them, and some would disapprove. This IMF-like team gives the Justice League plausible deniability. Led by Jason Todd, this roster would be made up of a group of folks who behave less formally than you'd expect on the Justice League.

Young Justice: Monthly series. Sidekick-only non-team led by Damian Wayne. He brings the "team" together in order to establish himself as the figure head of the next generation of superheroes. These young heroes bite off more than they can chew, but they still manage to get by.

The Justice Society: Montly series. These heroes claim to come from another dimension where things are different, but most of the world doesn't believe them yet, since this is a young DCU. They don't know how they made it from their WW2 earth to ours, but they're adapting and trying to help. Written like actual people from the 1940s trying to adapt to the present day. Even less trusted than the Justice League since they showed up out of knowhere with a crazy story that they can't back up.

Justice Incarnate: Monthly series. Basically a take on Marvel's Exiles.

Justice League Dark: Monthly series. Barely any change to the concept as you know it, but more of a non-team like Marvel's Defenders. Not a part of the Justice League, and "Justice League Dark" is more of a sarcastic reference by John Constantine.

The Authority: A prestige miniseries that pops up from time to time. Basically a take on Marvel's Illuminati. This secret team is what folks fear the Justice League is. The book focuses on superhero ethics.

The Terrifics: Monthly series. Basically Challengers of the Unknown or the Fantastic Four, but led by Mr. Terrific.

Doom Patrol: Monthly series. A secret team that's even older than the Justice League. Basically the BPRD from Hell Boy.

Legion of Doom: A miniseries that pops up from time to time. Focuses on the classic villains coordinating to win one over on the League.

RFG: Miniseries. Short for Royal Flush Gang. Ocean's Eleven/Italian Job/Heat book, in which characters without superpowers sucessfully pull off heists in cities populated by superheroes, like Metropolis, Central City, etc.

Secret Six: Monthly series. Supervillains for hire who follow a code.

Birds of Prey: Monthly series. No change to the original concept as you know it.

Time Masters: Mini series starring Rip Hunter, Jonah Hex, and Shining Knight.

Wildcats: Miniseries. Waller's first attempt at creating a counter to the Justice League. It didn't work out.

Legion of Superheroes: Monthly series. No change to the concept as you know it.

S.H.A.Z.A.M.: Monthly series. No change to the concept as you know it. The only team that is also an actual family.

Forever People: DC's Guardians of the Galaxy book.

Other titles would include The Green Lantern Corps, The Red Lanterns Corps, The Amazons, and Seven Soldiers of Victory (an all woman team, not made up of Amazons or other Wonder Woman characters). Justice League of China and Justice League International (a U.N. team) are fun miniseries ideas as well.

The first thing I'm doing is a massive crossover to delineate the teams, what each of their functions is, and why an audience should care about each as a separate entity.

It'd start as the usual DC cluster of all the heroes grouping, as teams of friends/allies quickly form out into the groups we know and love. The ending makes it clear that in two years or so a second, greater threat will arrive and they'll have to come together again. To one degree or another this sets each book a goal working towards this later event.

Justice League is defending the Earth. Big, over the top, world ending adventures.

Titans are training the next generation, this is (up to) city destroying level stuff with lots of personal drama and the like because younger characters. Titans Academy was a great idea, just poorly executed.

Young Justice are the wild cards, a group of friends getting into more offbeat, humourous adventures.

Justice Society are dealing with threats from the past, your Per Degatons and Vandal Savages, characters who have been shaping the world for decades. Might as well make Kobra DC's Hydra, give the JSA some Nazis to fight.

Legion of Superheroes are dealing with threats from/in the future. A small team is left behind, and these are backup stories with the bulk being in the future.

Magic Team - dealing with magical threats. DC's magic is really poorly defined, so I don't have an immediate hook for them. No Constantine, it is so against his character I can't believe people buy it. It would not be called Justice League Dark, as that is a terminally stupid name.

Justice League Support (better name needed) - an eclectic mix of beloved heroes who, when focused and on the right day, are every bit as good as the Justice League. Fantastic characters like Blue Beetle, Vixen, Captain Atom, Supergirl, Black Lightning, who just need the chance to shine. This is them overcoming their hesitation about believing in themselves as contemporaries of the biggest A-list characters.

    Doom Patrol - Bizarre nonsense.

Checkmate - back to being a political thriller. I liked Rucka's set-up. Explores the politics of a world inhabited by super-people.

Suicide Squad - the stuff the Justice League can't/won't do. Again, this should go back to its political roots.

By the time the second big crossover happens, the audience should actually care about each team and know what they bring to face the problem, instead of just being faces in the crowd. The battle they face is multi-layered so each has a niche to fill, instead of just a series of big set-piece battles.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!

    Wonder Woman-
    3books
    -
1- Wonder Woman - Diana with Steve, Etta, ARGUS, throw in Faraday and Sarge Steel who will be in charge of ARGUS and Steve, Etta and Diana operating as the agents. Villains new and old but old ones get power upgrades.

2- Sensation Comics- Focused on the Wonder family(Cassie, Donna, Artemis, Nubia and Diana)
Not sure of what they will do but possibly take on embassy like stories

3- Amazons - focus on opening Themyscira to Mans world as Phil Jimenez once did decades ago. This could be more of trading with men and alien races.

Just thought it would be fun to have my fav character get some love

I hold of the original Justice Society rule that teams are a chance for less-popular characters to shine. Superman-level characters may cameo, but are not regulars.
I like mixed-generation books, so sorry, no Teen Titans, but golden, silver, bronze, iron, and mercury-agers are sprinkled around all the teams.
It is important to remember that the characters all have lives outside the team, both in Superheroics and in their secret identities.
    Now, the titles.
All Star Comics, Home of the Justice Society of America. There is a slice-of-life feel, probably has the oldest and youngest heroes. They deal with street-level crime and social issues.
Leading Comics, home of the Seven Soldiers of Victory. This is the mythic one, sending our characters on quests inspired by myths from around the world.
The Brave and the Bold, home of the Justice League, our Science Fiction team. Fast-Paced, space trotting adventures, with plenty of cool gadgets, aliens, and mad scientists.
