My heart is sorrowful for the various places that take a beating from this - kiss goodbye to the Rideau canal, Ottawa and Ontario - but we've messed up the planet enough I figure we can take a few for the team. ^_^

What differentiates a peninsula from a cape, a fjord from a canyon, a cove from a bay, or a plateau from a mesa? If you erase all coves, does the shoreline just become a straight beach, or can you erase it by adding a sandbar and creating a lagoon?
