By that definition, why should anyone take Jaime seriously? If that was the actual attitude towards the Blue Beetle name, they should have given Jaime a different identity along with the scarab.

The Detroit Era League was considered a failure and thus the decision was made to make the League a team of all-stars or at least series leads and heroes with great potential, so we got the initial Giffen/DeMatteis roster. But in-story, the Detroit era wasn't trashed and spat upon at every opportunity after it ended. Indeed, it was treated as a tragic group when it was brought up. When Vixen (as a Suicide Squad member) and Gypsy made appearances in the JLI era, G&D went out of their way to treat their relationships with J'onn Jonzz with gravitas and respect.

Morrison and company, however, went out of their way to portray the League members from Giffen&DeMatteiss all the way up to the most recent line-up before Morrison took over with contempt as incompetent losers who were lucky that the League still had their numbers whenever they appeared in group shots. My guess is that the behind-the-scenes hate for everything Giffen was doing with the League (as well as some of the more lackluster creative teams and team rosters after his time) greatly outweighed whatever disdain might have existed for the Detroit League.

Despero's return to hunt the surviving Detroit Leaguers was chilling. J'onn and Gypsy really stepped up as part of Justice League Task Force.

The disdain for the JLI cast really soured me on the Morrison era League. If Batman could be allowed to have both campy and competent representations, I saw no reason why the same couldn't be done with the likes of Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, and Power Girl who had been played straight outside of their JL writing.
