Good call bro. Ha, the more I look at it, yeah, the face mask is giving some tiara vibes.
Been thinking of who else should be in Cage's administration. Now, I wish more of it would be shown in the comics. And if that becomes the case, I have some ideas of who should be part of it. Of course, Danny is there. Misty and Colleen as well. However, I was thinking of characters like Rage:
Hobbie Brown:
Rocket Racer:
I apologize if the choice are side-eye inducing and on the nose.
Weren't some of these characters called out by Dwayne McDuffie once? But hear me out. Being part of the administration could be a means of giving new life to these characters. Rage comes most prominently to mind. I could see Elvin having gone to a CUNY school or ESU, gotten a degree, and become a very capable NYC administrator. I could see Hobie and Robert being in charge of implementing new science and technology initiative programs throughout NYC, jumpstarting the city as a new tech hub while also launching programs for the youth.
And yeah, that's one of the other reasons I wanted these characters to be part of Luke Cage's administration. Luke, Elvin, Hobie, and Robert represent a certain generation of Black male in the Marvel Universe, someone who came of age just after the Civil Rights era. They were remarkable in many ways, but weren't recognized for a long time. All of them have had their brushes with the law due in no small part to systemic forces. They had to learn to be tough and strong on that NYC street because if they weren't the rest of the world would push, beat, oppress, and kill them. So how does that generation deal with the new generation of POC heroes in the Marvel Universe? How would Miles Morales Spider-Man, Moon Girl, or other new POC Marvel character react to them? It's something I like to see because I notice it myself with some work colleagues and the students they teach. Yes, they are POC who came of age in that environment at that time. The younger generation sees similarities with them. But there are different ideas and approaches. Mentalities and ideas forged in the 70s, 80s, and 90s may not be applicable in the 2020s. Or perhaps they still are?
So bringing it all back, yeah, I'd like to see the Luke Cage mayoral administration examined a bit more. I liked to see characters of Luke Cage's generation part of it. Because I think there's so much story potential in contrasting them to the new generation of today.
