Solid story. Art is of course gorgeous and I do think it definitely emulates the feel of an old Superman serial. Interesting that Cantwell chose to put this in continuity, rather than go full Elseworld with it.

Just read it, and loved it!
Look, I'm loving what Williamson and PKJ is doing and the main Superman books are the best in a decade or more. But if DC ever consider another Superman comic or something, Cantwell and Rodriguez are the team I wanting to see.
Hopefully it gets collected outside of this series.

Seriously. I'm attracted to this story and not opposed to the others, but I certainly would rather not but all for one

DC had collected some backups as single issues, Penguin 0 and I think there was something else as well. Unlikely, but maybe same could be done here as well.

Enjoyed the second part. Long as the ending is solid I think this will live up to Cantwell describing it as a lost Fleschier episode. He has a good handle on Clark’s voice, wouldn’t mind seeing more Superman work from him. Artwork is of course fantastic.

With the final part out, I must say I enjoyed this but it’s more a prologue to a proper full Superman story than a self-contained episode like Cantwell claimed. Supes isn’t able to stop the bad guy or even save Hop, it all ends pretty tragically with his memory of Hop totally erased. Still, as the opening act for a Superman run or mini I think Cantwell shows great promise, and Rodriguez’s art is of course great from start to finish. And the ending does tease the possibility of more.

Alright this has my attention.gonna check it out.The artstyle feeling like a bit tim cook/retro and green mask guy made me feel interested.

Any chance this is going to get collected? I have no local comic book shop so I hate getting single issues (shipping costs on Amazon - no I'm not getting prime) so trade paper backs and collections of that nature tend to be easier/cheaper. Really loving the retro pulpy art style.

Rodriguez posted this tweet above of a Superman WIP after acknowledging the last part of The Order of the Black Lamp was out: https://twitter.com/javiercaster/sta...487sLx_4UoiJsQ
So maybe he and Cantwell are already working on a Superman mini spinning out of B&tB? That’s if I’m right about this being new work.
