Default You wouldn't get away with that nowadays!

Have you ever read an old comic, and thought it was offensive? Or that some topical debate could've been handled better? What old comics published stuff that they just couldn't get away with in 2023?

    This article lists a few:
    https://www.cbr.com/marvel-comics-most-outdated-things/
    • Karen Page's AIDS (Daredevil, 1998)
    • Gwen Stacy's death (Amazing Spider-Man #121, 1973)
    • Ultimate Captain America's portrayal (Ultimates)
    • The Stamford Incident, which involved a school being destroyed (Civil War)
    • Princess Diana of Wales joins X-Statix (X-Statix, 2003, edited before publication to remove references to the real life princess, who died in 1997)
    • Norman Osborn impregnating Gwen Stacy (Sins Past)
    • Shang Chi, son of Fu Manchu (Master of Kung Fu)
    • Falcon revealed to be Snap Wilson, former gangster (Captain America #186)
    • Marcus rapes Ms. Marvel (Avengers #200)
    • Spider-Man reacts to 9/11 (Amazing Spider-Man vol 2 #36)

This one was offensive when it came out. It should never have happened.

...Remember the anti-cemitic easter eggs in 2017's X-Men: Gold?

Some of these feel like they could easily happen today.
I mean Gwen dying isn't as outdated as People make it out to be. And the whole Karen Paige having aids isn't that outdated.
Ultimate Cap is a product of it's time, but it's not much different to Hydra Cap.

Honestly, the thing that springs to mind is Sue Storm in Fantastic Four, she was nearly always written as the Damsel in Distress. It wasn't until much later she became a character of her own.

Rogue kissing people to steal their powers and memories.
Even though the violation of intimacy, stealing people' s most private memories and thoughts, is way, way worse than a forced kiss.
Bringing back the old, killing the young: that's the Marvel way

Hopefully this counts, but how about Doom's tears during that same event...

I bring this up a bit...but the first issue of the 80s Falcon series...

Sam stops 3 guys from sexually assaulting a young woman in an alley...then talks the girl and her father into not pursuing charges and tells the judge the attacker shouldn't be prosecuted because he really a good kid when he isn't drinking.
All I wanted was to be unconditionally loved while never having to work on my flaws. Is that so much to ask?

Hopefully this counts, but manhole cover is now considered politically-incorrect...

It's a bit of a shame that the best Marvel comic (Daredevil: Born Again) would be very different today.

I don't think Marvel would go for bold moves like the MAX line.
    Sincerely,

Valeria Richards calling her brother the r-word during Hickman's FF run. I liked it, it made their sibling dynamic feel more real. But I get why that wouldn't fly anymore, especially with Disney riding high.

I know you probably know better and I think CBR's weird messaging system changed it to Fun Manchu. Fu Manchu movies used to be made by Hammer (with Christopher Lee playing Sax Rohmer's the sinister 4 times a genius) and much earlier Boris Karloff played him in a movie. The 20s and the 30s were the time of what was called the Yellow Peril . Marvel had their own version of Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu in the Mandarin. He was changed to a more heroic character in the MCU.

Doctor Doom: the son of a Gypsy witch who sold her soul to the devil, ultimately leading to Doom himself becoming a Gypsy warlock, clad in armor with Soviet rivets in a country that is a stereotype of Eastern Europe. No way Doom gets created in the modern era.

That actually surprised me at the time.
I’ll don the mask and wear the cape
If I am super, how can I wait?
