Meanwhile: Don't trust twitter. People have evidence that tweets posted only to your "twitter circle" of selected contacts show up on the "for you" tab of people not even following them. The code is broken.

I actually like Twitter. Now that you can genuinely just see the tweets of those you follow, I actually like Twitter a lot more. The 'for you' is a disaster and always served up political garbage, usually right wing stuff. But now, the following tab keeps it on track. It's all about limiting who I follow and dropping people who bring in negativity. I only follow WeRateDogs, TEDTalks, The Onion, ZillowGoneWild, gay porn, comic book, sports, and pro wrestling accounts, so Twitter is generally pretty cool.

TikTok is okay. It's good for cooking ideas. I cook more now than I used to, so I like it as a resource. And some of the comedy stuff is actually entertaining.

I don't use Facebook, Snap, or Instagram at all.

I regularly use Facebook and Instagram and have no issues with them. I think social media is what you make of it and it's fairly easy to avoid most of the truly horrible stuff by not feeding into it. You don;t need to click on outrage YouTube links and the like, so they don't show on your feed. You don't need to share contrversial posts that you disagree with, which only helps the person who originally said it. Just keep scrolling and don't feed the trolls.

Honestly I think it needs to be regulated and we need classes on dealing with it for kids.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey says Musk wasn’t an ideal leader after all

Uh, yeah??? Anyone with an ounce of common sense could have predicted this.

SAN FRANCISCO — Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey issued his sharpest criticism yet of Elon Musk’s leadership of Twitter on Friday, saying Musk has not proved to be the platform’s ideal steward — and should have walked away from buying the site.
The criticisms and explanations came in a series of reply posts Friday night on the fledgling social network Bluesky, a potential Twitter rival that Dorsey helped to start. The remarks illustrate how Musk’s erratic leadership has disillusioned a one-time friend and powerful ally, reflecting a growing backlash against a tumultuous tenure that has sent advertisers fleeing and users searching for alternatives.

Dorsey said he thought Musk, the Tesla CEO who serves in the same role at Twitter today, should have paid $1 billion to back out of the deal to acquire the social media platform. The comments are a stark reversal from Dorsey’s strong endorsement of Musk’s takeover, when he wrote a year ago that if Twitter had to be a company at all, “Elon is the singular solution I trust.”

“I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness,” Dorsey tweeted at the time.
In his remarks on Bluesky on Friday, Dorsey struck a far different tone.

Dorsey said he didn’t think Musk “acted right” after pursuing the site and realizing his potential mistake, adding that he did not believe the company’s board should have forced the sale.

“It all went south,” Dorsey added.

Free twitter is now limited to scrolling by only 600 tweets a day. I bet he's counting the ads on that one, too.

Hmmmm... sure, it's a bad website, but it was the only thing I could use to get a good taste of what was happening in news and culture. How will I know what the hell is going on, since social media consolidation has all but killed boards and individual sites?

You can still go to a few news websites that are not behind paywals, like The Guardian from the UK, CNN, Deutsche Welle's international site etc.

^ Yeah, for straight news. But what about all the great writers and artists I follow for everything from news on their current projects to film/TV/book/comics/music recommendations? What about seeing a still image from an old horror film you'd never heard of before and becoming intrigued? So many of the best writers and critics have their articles published in a dozen different venues these days. How to even find them now?

Yeah, the consolidation of the internet has been terrible, but now it's become hard to even get the things I want from it. The internet is becoming unusable.

Yeah...giving it another year before the site either implodes or Elon tries to sell it.

The former head of Twitter's trust and safety department posted this on Bluesky:
