Wasn’t spent entirely on Suicide Squad. They were doing a new IP for a bit, then switched. Might’ve been other cancelled projects too, WBM worked on Batman, Superman, and Suicide Squad before putting out Gotham Knights.

You just know the lesson learned will be that only Batman games do well.

Might have to put every hope on that Wonder Woman game.

Been that way for a while. But it’s more she’s the last chance for single player non-GAAS games.

Assuming they don't micro-transaction it to death.

Microtransactions are unlikely but nickel and dimeing DLC is assuredly a given. Arkham Knight was very aggressive with its DLC.

But that's probably true for a lot of AAA games.

Sadly true, though WB is worse than most. How long are we going to have to wait to find out what WBM is working on I wonder? They’re the only option for a Superman game for the foreseeable future. Not holding out much hope that’s what they’re working on but I’d like to know.

You know what’s funny? I think that while the Batdamily is marketable is also been a curse to WB. Can they do anything outside of Batman? Wonder Woman’s shouldn’t be difficult since you already have God Of War, Shadow of Mordor oh hell, even Devil May Cry as blueprints. I hope it’s good.

Perrette said WBD's recent gaming output has focused on AAA games for console, and that's great when a game like Hogwarts Legacy sells 22 million copies and becomes the best-selling game of the year, but this kind of success is never guaranteed in what Perrette said was a "volatile" market. He pointed out that one of WBD's latest big games, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was a disappointment for the company.

So the plan going forward, he said, is to help reduce volatility by focusing on core franchises and bringing at least some of them to the mobile and free-to-play space, as well as continuing to invest in live-service games that people play--and spend money on--over a long period of time. This will help WBD generate more consistent revenue, he said, going on to tease that WBD had some new mobile free-to-play games coming this year. Also worth noting is that just because WBD may push into new places, that doesn't necessarily mean it will stop making big single-player AAA games.

"Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?" he said.

Not looking good for those of us who want a single player Superman game. WB would rather keep rolling the dice on live services.

A Superman game in general is a pipe dream.

I hope Gunn has some impact here.

People were complaining about him forcing the studios to conform to his vision, but I guarantee he’d be a better overseer than the suits currently running WB Games

That’s like the only thing giving me a sliver of hope with this whole mess.

Maybe he can convince the suits that the occasional single player non-live service game should be made. I have no idea if that’s his stance but he definitely seems like a more reasonable person than the brain trust running WB.

My hope is that the suits focus on their own little corner of mobile gaming, which leaves other major figures like Gunn here to work on their own stuff cause the rest of the suits will be too busy with their own crap to notice.
