I was re-reading "The Flash Companion" last week, and apparently "Barrence" only became "Bartholomew" by the time they were creating Impulse. Waid wanted to name him Barry II, DC vetoed it, and Busiek suggested Bart, so they could still have the same name. When they remembered that Barry was actually "Barrence", they shrugged it because "nobody knew that".

I love my Flash Compendium! I was very happy to have Keith Dallas sign it for me too. Brilliant book, worth every cent!

I reckon with the change in direction with Wally's upcoming relaunch, we may get a Barry book as well.

It’s funny, because this reminds me of Planetary/JLA: Terra Occulta, where Warren Ellis named him Barrett Allen , it’s funny I didn’t think there was so many ways to flip one name.

Yes...somewhere out there is the *original* Barry BARRENCE Allen, the version we saw from SHOWCASE # 4 to COIE # 8.

Convergence is an odd thing because it acts as if pre-Crisis Barry is a separate entity from post-Crisis and most other stories show him as being the same person. He even stated in a recent issue that he remembers all of his previous lives that were rebooted so I think he is the original. Maybe the Convergence version was a hypertime variant? It's hard to say and DC rarely seems to acknowledge Convergence anyway.
